Sorry to start another STD thread but this is worrying me.
I've made an appointment with my GP, but due to him/me being on holidays
it's not going to happen for another 4 weeks.

    25 Male
I've found recently that if I don't wash for a couple of days,
the head of my penis under the foreskin gets irritated and
I get red patches on it.
If I wash daily it doesn't happen, and all is normal.
Does this sound like Herpes or some other STD ?
If, so is there any treatment ?
I've read that herpes is not curable, which is worrying me :-(

Thanks in advance for any advice,
    Dermot.

I'd imagine that washing shouldn't impact on STDs. :dunno: That said if you're on holidays as you say I'd respect whoever you're going to be with and be a little extra precautious just in case...

Im no doctor, but Id diagnose that as kinda of a heat rash. Your penis is a moist warm area and now along comes summer and its even warmer. Bacteria in heaven down there.
    Wash more often!

Like I said though Im not a doctor so if your worried about STD's its better to get a screening and relieve the worry. And as previous poster said, respect any girl you might meet till after screening.

first off - you should be washing daily at your age!!

If I wash daily it doesn't happen, and all is normal

hence the idea of washing daily being a good one....

Does this sound like Herpes or some other STD ?

are you sexually active? it's the only way to get an std

I suggest you see a doctor asap, if your regular one is on hols, go see another one

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I do wash everyday, but if I don't give it a good cleaning
down there, things can get irritated..
Obviously I do keep it clean, but I'm still concerned..

A few months ago I had a one night stand,
and maybe I'm been paranoid, but it seems
    to have happened since.

    I'll be abstaining until I get a check-up
(Not that, that will be hard ;) )

It sounds to me like thrush.
Regular boring common thrush. It's a form of yeast infection thingy that anyone can get. You don't necessarilly have to be sexually active for it to show although it is possible to catch it from a girl (and she doesnt necessarilly need to be suffering from it either to pass it on). It thrives in moist warm places ie, down below or even on your lips at either side of your mouth.
It can show its self after you have take a course of anti-biotics, after eating a lot of sweet sugary things, after a hectic boozing session. Its something to do with an imbalance of bacteria in you digestive system.

Eating yoghurt can help neutralise the excess of stomach bacteria that brings on thrush, wearing loose fitting COTTON clothes down below (NO JEANS & u must wear cotton to keep the area cool) can help, and make sure to dry off properly "down there" after a shower.
Also you can get a cream, at any pharmacy, over the counter called Canesten (its in a white box with red stripe) and use that to help with the irratation.

If you don't happen to have thrush eating yoghurt and using the cream won't do any you harm.

See a doctor anyway even if your regular one is on holidays. I'm surprised he didn't get in someone to cover for him while he was away :dunno:

This is most likely a stooopid question but I'll ask anywho...

I know STDs can only be spread by sex or sexual contact but can you be born with an STD ?

I know chlamydia and gonorrhea can be passed on to a child in childbirth, so I presume many others can too, so yes, you can be born with an STD.

Syphilis and HIV can also be passed on, not sure about the Hep's

routine pre-natal screening will check for a lot of these so the mother would know she was positive before giving birth and treatment options could be looked into then

Really really unlikely to be an STD.

It's simply... your skin getting irritated.

If this was happening on your arm you wouldn't care whatsoever. It just happens to be on your knob.

Start washing properly for a month and see if it stops altogether. If it does, stop worrying.

BTW herpes are sores. Cold sores. You'd defo know if you had that.

    Genital warts are... warts.

Otherwise other STD's don't really have external symptoms... at least not itchy knob.

Are you honestly asking other adults how to wash your toger at 25 years old?

    .......

Must do more drugs so things like this don't seem *completely* stupid.

Yes it is quite possible for many STD to penetrate the placenta during foetal gestation.

*Amazingly* if a mother has an STD, it doesn't automatically mean her baby will be born with the same disease, since the placenta is quite efficient at filtering things out.
