    Hey there,

a friend of mine is going for an interview for a Desktop Support position - she has been told that she will also need to answer on paper some technical type questions about hardware, software, comms etc

anyone been to an interview like this and any ideas of what questions could be asked?

    Thanks :)

They could actually be asked anything, but most I've done have focused on a few main things - Windows network configuration, Networking basics, and Office basics (particularly Word and Outlook).

i remember i did a technical test when i went into gateway (i actually got a dell technical test in the agency) and it was pretty basic back then.

how many usb devices can you hang of one connection
what is difference between rj45 and rj11
    what is bnc connection
    interanl parts of system
how to install hardware in OS
    basic troubleshooting
IRQ's (although you boys and girls dont need them anymore, with your fancy schmancy operating systems)
peripherals like printers and scanners, network printers
    anti virus stuff.

    all pretty basic and easy.

I did a couple a few years back. Handy enough I found but there can be a few dodgy questions
eg. "What's the speed of the ISA bus?"

But if's she up to speed on general hardware and familar with a windows box she'll be fine. For example "Where would one find the Device Manager?"
