    hi guys

i'm having a problem with my machine the last few days
in this heat my computer keeps crashing due to the heat, the temperature is in the high 50's but the spec for the mother board says it can reach 80's before it gets critical
before it was around 36 idle and low 40's with load but with the heat the last few days its reaching 50's
    should i be worried?
its a self built amd 2700+ on a msi k7n2 delta ilsr, i didn't have this problem before as i built it at the end of the summer last year

How certain are you that it's heat related?

If it's just dying on you, it may be the power supply - try a different PSU, or remove all CD/DVD Rom drives + extra harddrives leaving just your primary HD.

Also remove any PCI cards (including the monster gfx card that you prob have :p) to try to conserve power.

    See how that works out

no its not dying physically on me, it just hangs mid game after an hour or two
it was happening on Far Cry and Breed
my monster gfx is a modest (these days) 9700 pro ;)

Well then a quick thing to try:

1: Remove all extra drives that you dont need (I assume you have a CD crack for those games?)
2: Remove any PCI cards that you have that may be using power (sound, network cards...)
3: Disconnect from broadband (Onboard NIC/USB)
4: Remove all USB attachments from your machine
5: Reboot machine and play games again - try to crash the machine. :)

Leave the gfx card in if you don't have an onboard gfx card - and it's a monter compared to my NForce2 onboard graphics :)

ATIs have issues with both those games enable VPU recover in Display Settings and you know soon enough if its graphics related.

Run Prime95 for a while on your system........... this should rule out/in the CPU/RAM/PSU and will also test cooling.

If prime95 runs ok for 2-3hours then this definetly isint your problem, look elsewhere.

Your CPU shouldn't be giving you issues at 50°C. One you start pushing 80-90° then you get worried.

I'd start gettin worried if it goes over the mid-fifties or low sixties if it's still crashing, if it's not then it can take it :D

I would say its a PSU problem, not a heat problem, your temps seem fine. What PSU are you using and what are your voltages under load?

That's mental high. Ideally you want to keep them below 60c. The p4 range can handle up to 70-75c before thermal throttling starts kicking in. I know your proc doesn't have thermal throttling but the high 50's should be more than safe.

I doubt it's a heat issue. If you want to get your temps down get some artic silver 5 and apply it between your hsv and processor.
