Does anyone know where or indeed if there's anywhere in Dublin where I can take up this martial art? I'm interested in having a go but I can't find any information. I know there's a club in the North but I'm looking for one in Dublin.

Anybody do this martial art? Any opinions to share?

Straight Blast Gym teach Functional JKD, which we believe is the essense of what Bruce Lee was getting at - Doing what works, and not wasting one's time with any "fancy mess" or techniques for technique's sake.

Depending on where you're living you can check out our locations thru www.twokingsmma.net

The site is best viewed in 1024 * 768 pixels. Some browsers are having trouble with it. I'll fix it soon enough.

Some sites you might want to look at to get a feel of what we do are

http://www.straightblastgym.com http://www.straightblastgym.net/faq.html Check out the "Common Myths about Martial Arts, it's about halfway down the page.

If you're around my club, drop me a mail at colm@twokingsmma.net and we can arange for you to call down, see if you like what we do.

    Cheers man!

Yeah the reason why JKD attracted me is because it discards all the useless stuff about religion/philosophy and its realsitic in that there's no uniforms/belts and breaking bricks with your head nonsense. I mean what possible use in real life is being able to break a brick with your face?? (apologies to people who possess aforementioned skill :D)

Ok I've looked at the site and while it looks very interesting and tempting it seems to focus more on BJJ. Is there actually much JKD incorporated in the 'course', if you understand what I'm saying? While rolling and grappling may be useful for confrontations, it doesn't appeal to me as much fun to spend every class rolling around the floor. Is this part of the training interupted (for lack of a better term) by much striking(punches, kicks etc) at all?

I might call down at some point, though it is a fair distance away, at least 2 bus journeys I'm guessing.

Perhaps you could call into John Kavanagh's club on a Thursday night. That night focuses a lot on clinch and stand up.

You can get in touch with him by mailing john@irishbjj.com.

    Hopefully Harold's X won't be 2 bus journey's away from you!
