Although nothing is concrete yet, I am just putting feelers out about this:

(***If I am posting in the wrong forum please move!***)

I maybe moving to Cork City in a few weeks. There will be a few days during the week when I will have nada/nothing to do during the whole day.

I dont know anyone in Cork also (and well I guess even if I did they would be working during the week.)

i work but as I said will have a few days during the week where there will be nothing to do. Cant get a parttime job as I have to be flexible on what days I work (in case of meetings etc...)

Any suggestions? Social places to go......things to do.......clubs/courses etc to join?

    Thanks!

Are you moving alone or with someone else?

It might be an idea to take up some sort of distance learning or nite course and that
way during the day when you arent doing anything else you can do your course
    work/study etc etc..

Apart from that why not just go out and about and get to know the place, im sure
along the way you will see something that might interest you..

Check out places like the local newspapers for classes etc and through these you
    will meet people..

Its always hard moving to a new place, especially if you are moving on your own
but if your any way outgoing then there should be no problems meeting others..

What part of Cork are you moving to?

    Tox

There's a guy here who goes by the name Dahamsta who always seems to be looking for Cork people to go to the pub with. Maybe try there.

there's plenty of stuff to do in Cork City - the usual art gallerys, museums and so on.

there's also a fair few night and day time courses you can look into - anything from engine maintainence to languages. they tend to be fairly reasonable price wise too.

If you've a car there's a heck of a lot more to do around Cork - even within only a half hours drive. If you've no car there's the Cobh train which brings you to Fota or into Cobh . Cobh is nice for walks and chilling out.

    check out the south (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?forumid=176)
board - there's plenty of links there for stuff that's on in Cork, and more people to ask.

    Thanks for the ideas lads.

I will only know my boyfriend and his friends. I dont want to be so dependant on him.
For example when he gets home after working I dont want for him to be my source of entertainment (if ya know what I mean).

I would just go mad if I had to sit around for these few spare days doing nothing but watching TV. would drive me stir crazy.

I am doing this to be closer to my boyfriend. My job will still be an hour and a half up the country but i think I can manage 2 and a half days a week with the boss and spend the rest of my time in Cork (going up and down to each other so often is too hard).

Im hoping it will work but am nervous that Ill get bored and have nothing to do during the days I have off thus hate living there. He'll have his job etc to keep him occupied.

There is lots to do in Cork, but you need to have some circle of friends to do all these crzy things with. I would suggest joing a group or something to build friendships. I was looking up all the courses available in cork, there is something for every interest. Cork can be expensive though, keeping yourself entertained everyday I mean.

    heya!

theres loads to do in cork :) a few ideas...hmm...well joining the gym is defo a good idea - the one out in bishopstown is great, and you can pay per visit if you dont want to join.

the gingerbread house and tribes are good places to get a cup of coffee and just "people watch"...or just chill out and read for a while. and they are both open all evening until 12 or 1 am at least.

the only parks around are the peace park in the city centre and fitzgeralds park which is around 15 mins walk from d city centre. peace park is tiny and not great really....but its in d city centre. fitz's park is nice to go for a walk around in during the summer.

you could go up to the lough - its another nice place to go for a walk and see the birds.

joining a club would be another good idea - there are loads of martial arts clubs around or as the others said every type of club really. if you are looking for night classes you could check out st johns college on sawmill street or the college of commerce on morrisons island.

look through the old english market if you want to get some fresh or unusual foods. theres a great cafe upstairs there too.

i dont know what kindof music your into but theres loads of good places to go out, and if your heading out with ur bf and his friends you will get talking to people like.

theres a midsummer festival on soon as well i dunno wots happening but there may be some cool things to see and do then.

sooo....hope that helped a bit anyways lol :)

    cya,
    halcyon

ps...welcome to the real capital lol

Don't go to the gingerbread house. Its full of bohemio psuedo intellectual eejits and smelly stoners, and the food has gone down in quality and up in price in ages ago. Tribes is okay if you are under 17.
