    Hey,

I wanna get myself a heat rate monitor and am looking for some advice. I've been using my brothers but he started using it again so its becoming awkward. What I really want to know is if there's anything I should watch out for when buying one. I hear Polar are the best but I don't have much money at the moment and they're a bit on the dear side. I've heard bad things about some of the others which have the batteries you can replace yourself though. Can anyone advise me?

    I have a cheapo HRM
    I have a mid level Polar (S210)
I have a Timex Bodylink system

Believe me when I say buy one you won't grow out of. I wasted my time with the cheapo and the mid level polar and should have gone for a high level polar or the timex from the very start.

There is nothing *wrong* with cheap, mid level HRMs. All I'm saying is ask yourself what you want long term from your training and ask youself would you be better off holding off a bit longer and saving a bit.

If all you want it for is basic fitness then get a low-level Polar. I'd stick to polar. Whats your budget?
