Is it normal / OK for the CPU fan to be going ~1600RPM? while the Power (PSU I presume) fan is running at ~4500RPM. I would have expected it to be the other way around. Its an AMD 1800XP+ and been that way since I built the system about a year ago. Never really thought about it before.

you sure you haven't got the fans wired to the wrong sensors? 1600 RPM sounds about right for a PSU fan.

4500rpm is very loud, and totally un-nessary unless you've overclocked it alot. You must be going mad?

What cooler do you have? Mabye think about a cheap quiet replacement?

I have a feeling that that screenshot (and all other software I've tried) is getting mixed up between the CPU fan and the PSU fan, because the CPU fab is _definitely_ going way faster.

COL_LOKI: you should hear my DVD-ROM when it cranks up :) Its a stock AMD fan than came with a PC kit from komplett. I find it pretty quiet actually. I've added 4 case fans though to bring temps down, and they _are_ annoying at full tilt, but I've a thread about that somewhere else on boards, and got myself a fan-controller (arrived today) that fixes that problem.
