Politicians

Like most of ye, I've had the politicians calling to the door over the past week. I've become rather disillusioned with politics over the past five years but I decided I would talk to each and every one of them. When Sinn Fein called I told them their criminal activitives prevented me for voting for them even though they appear to have a good understanding of social issues. I missed Fine Gael and had a good chat with the labour fellow, he works in the area of disabilities so understood my point of view even if he was a little vicious in his condemnation of the "thugs, criminals and gangsters" in Fine Fail. Then, yesterday two guys from Fine Fail knocked on the door. Please bear with me, this may look like a political rant and in the wrong forum but you will see the connection soon! (note: why did the fine fail candidate have to bring a minder?).

When they told me who they were I said they were a disgrace and should be ashamed of themselves. They had necks like the jockeys youknowwhats as it didn't knock them out of step. Why do you say that says one of them (they had taken the bait, now to get them hook line and sinker). Well, says I, we won't talk about Liam Lawlor, or Ray Burke, though I would really like to discuss him, as I believe he links the big boys to the carry on from the haughty era to todays goverment, I won't even waste our time talking about Ms Flynn, we will forget about the 15million gone to punchestown, the 160million on the bertie bowl and the 48million wasted on the e-vote debacle. We won't talk about the extra police ye promised at the last election or the closure of rural stations, (all the while the boys are smiling at me like I'm an idiot). Lets talk about your children....they took a mental step back, the expressions changed, you both have kids? yes. They are well, in jobs, school etc? Yes. Now how would ye feel if Fine Gael were in goverment and they brought in legislation which removed certain constitutional rights from your children? Its a retorical question, you would feel angry and outraged. Well, guys, thats exactly what you and you are planning to do to my child. The vile and nasty piece of work concerning disabilities that fine fail are working on does just that and both of ye are responsibile. You are both a disgrave and should be ashamed of yourselves. Both went into reverse gear and tried to blame the crowd in Dublin, they were concerned with the local elections. It didn't wash and I made that clear. Now here's the good bit, I pointed to the planning permission notice in the garden (I got approval two weeks ago but left it up for this reason). I have applied for the grant to build a bedroom and bathroom, the total grant available is €21k, I was offered less than half, €9K. (the estimated cost is between €60 & €70k on quotes received so far). The health boards don't have the funds, this led onto a discussion about the abolition of the health boards and how much money is wasted blab blab blab.

At the end of this chat they told me I would be better off building the extension by direct labour! This is something I had considered but I wanted the work done right, with a good builder, and some of the work would require specialists. I did not expect politicans to call to my door and encourage me to avoid paying tax! I don't enjoy paying 98cent a litre for petrol or 21% vat on books, cds, dvds etc but realise to fund hospitals, police, street lights, etc the money has to come for somewhere, but in a year where the aib and even more politicans are reveled as tax dodgers why was I surprised when two chancers call to my door and their solution to my problem is to pay cash into the hand to get something built!

Bob Geldof was so right, Banana Republic how are ya!

so if they should call to your door, put on your sh1t kickers and kick some sh1t.
