For anyone interested, this quartet are monster! Its my second collaboration with Improvised Music Company, to bring hard hitting european Jazz musicians to Ireland so if anyones interested, your support of these gigs will ensure I can collaborate furthur with IMC and Arts Council to bring the best musicians in Europe to Dublin. Bancroft is an amazing sax player and if there are any guitar players out there, Mike Walker is the most in demand sessions guitarist in Britian at the moment so well wortyh a look. I realise Jazz is a niche market but for any one curious as to what the f**k is going on, I couldn't recommend a better introduction. Thanks for your support.

"captures the energy of tenor sax giants, hard hitting contemporary jazz" The List

Phil Bancroft - tenor sax, Steve Watts - acoustic bass
Mike Walker - electric guitar, Thomas Strønen - drums/perc.

Bancroft was co-founder of the ground-breaking John Rae Collective, an Edinburgh-based sextet which turned the Scottish jazz scene on its head in the late 80¹s. Phil was the band¹s principle composer, and his inventiveness gave their music much of its distinctive flair.

Phil has since taken his musical convictions into all areas of music, performing all over the world with the likes of Joe Lovano, Kenny Wheeler and Carol Kidd to name but a few.

Phil Bancroft plays soprano and tenor saxophones, and various whistles. His roots are in the American jazz tradition, from Swing and Be-bop through to Free Jazz, with influences from Parker and Rollins through to Coltrane, Ornette Coleman and David Murray. He is firmly positioned in the new European movement of contemporary jazz, with strong interests in Celtic, Classical, dance and Indian music. He has performed extensively with musicians from the Celtic/ Folk tradition, dance and experimental music, and classical music scenes in Scotland and abroad. He has studied with Steve Coleman, George Garzone and Dave Liebman, and has lived and played in the Paris, Amsterdam and New York music scenes. He teaches Saxophone and Improvisation at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama.

Bancroft is currently working with Trio AAB, Celtic Feet, Big Feet and Kevin Mackenzie¹s Vital Signs. He is set to establish himself as one of the most exciting and original contemporary jazz musicians in Europe with his new Quartet.
