    nggggggggggggh. Worst Possible Result.

Got to the final table, 2 tickets on offer and came 3rd. Hopefully I'll get a seat in the bubble competition out of it at least.

One guy just refused to make any deal and so we had to play down to 2 with blinds at 4K/8k it just turned into a lottery. One guy was all in and we both called his 9To with decent cards (I had AJ!) and we both missed all out outs and he hit a 9. Then it was my turned and got no help.

Muso cracked my second pair of pocket aces by pulling a straight with his AQ! No more complaints about AA beat by A-high flushes muso! :p

No bubble for the freerolls unfortunately.

    whats the bubble thing?

Yeah, hard luck Tom! It feels pretty poop doesn't it? I remember your bullets! hehe. Even though you lost, you still have to tip me for dealing. So any problems with my dealing style (laying table) I think it's safer and handier, gets the game going quicker. You didn't like the suspense turn overs no? Was it not A 10 that got the straight against your bullets? Or did A Q do it too? I was knocked out with pocket 5's, all in (short stacked) versus AJ AJ KJ (chances of anyone hitting anything are pretty slim, if cards were on their backs pre flop I would have been a happy guy) but a J came out, and so did a K. Arghhh! 100 tonight. Should I? How many players on average? how many prizes?

I'd recommend it. Great standard of play. Usually at least 3 full tables, more recently I think as it has a good rep for a freezeout game.
Top 5 places pay, about €150 for 5th, up to maybe €2000 for first. early on the blinds are nothing compared to your chips so play tight and raise with good cards to get more value into the pot. (even if you're behind! :))

Laying out all the cards face down defeats the purpose of burn cards. Cards are burnt to defeat card marking not card counting so if someone sees the top card on the deck it's little good to him as it's going to be burnt but laying out all five cards allows a card marker to potentially see what the turn and river will be at a glance. So it's a touch dumb. Also I find it hugely irritating.

Actually it *was* that A10 that cracked my aces. Then it went on to win every time it came out (which was about 4 hands out of 5!).

The only problem with your dealing style was that when people muck their cards they have to chuck them in with cards that are still on their front leading to a possibility of an accident. I prefer big flops to individual card turnovers too.

Ah well, at least I sorted something out with my play and it seemed to make a big difference to my game last night. (I was over betting some hands when I should have been milking them).

I just do it at home games, I know none of us are the cheating type, but I cant say the same for the casino crowd, tom and the likes. haha, just pulling your leg, the broken one at that.

Sod those guys for turning down a deal. I'd be on my way in for a game tonight only for them. That guy with the massive stack said himself he wouldn't deal because he had never won anything before and wanted to go for it. My claim that accepting a deal would mean he had won something fell on deaf ears.
As to the method of dealing Cornie. Didn't make any major difference to me but it's not so much about cheating as avoiding any possible difficulties that might arise. Dealing the way it's normally done is the safest bet.

Yeah, I was kinda annoyed about not making a deal there and then to be honest. I mean its not like he's dropping tons of cash or anything. As it was he was down to the felt a few times himself before I went out third. I thoroughly enjoyed the tournie but just felt the very latter stages (when it was down to three) had nothing to do with my abilities as a poker player (such as they are!).

I did fix a few things with my game though (and I think Gerire felt the brunt of it with my pocket QQ's which I would normally have bet big with)... I dunno if it was a run of luck of if it made that much difference....

Is anybody planning on heading in for the €50 game tonight?? I really don't wanna drop a €100 down the Fitz tonight but I'm sorely tempted to :).

where? Merrion? I'm only 19 :( you have to be 21+ for Merrion. I think I may go for the fitz 100. Big money indeed, just can't let them punks know it means so much to us! enough of the cornie buddy! hehe.

I too was playing this strategy earlier and it was working well but managed to forget how to do it when it came to the final table.

I was really hoping for a deal aswell when we got to 5 and I said to Dev " So do you want to talk ........" and that bullsh1t 'Ive never won anything' was cr@p he should have stuck to his 'Im not free on Mondays'

Dev how could you burn me with those Q's after I had dealt you pocket A's twice. And I even said to myself that you were putting out a milking bet but couldnt throw the AJ.

I'm going for the 100 tonight. Wish me luck, I better not get the same bad cards as last night. Hopefully I'll finish in the money! Can't show any fear.

Aye good luck. Let us know how you get on. And remember dont throw over your aces until you've said "call".

Back to Sunday, was it the 2 guys who wouldnt make a deal that actually won the tickets?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

it was them 2. Sure, fair play to them, they made the right choice I suppose.

I got knocked out of tourny by a bad beat. I like it though, I will go again (anyone have any spare cash?) hehe.

    Sorry musician, anxiety.

Cormie, youre looking for a tip of tom and you still havent given me mine for keeping you alive for hours last thursday

Youll be let into the Merrion if you tell them your only there for poker, my friend did it during the open but he claimed he was already paid up for the tournaments and its fairly easy to win tickets for the 100 freezout on a tuesday in the monday sattelite

Yes it was. They were both lucky to be there in fact and still neither would deal. the blinds were so big at that stage that you were All-In on your big blind almost!Personally I'd have taken 160 credit any day of the week but in the end my BB didnt stand up and out I went. I hate that though, its not a test of skill then...

Must say that I tend to prefer the Sunday free-roll, it normally has much fewer players (three, sometimes even only two tables), so the atmosphere is a bit more personable. You see a lot more familiar faces and that makes the banter good. the fewer players also gives you a better opprtunity at a ticket if you do well early on. Having said that of course, there are normally fewer tickets (sometimes only one for the big one) because of the lower number of rebuys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 580 ✭✭✭kencleary

Exactly!! fewer re-buys = fewer tickets. When I won my ticket last Thursday there was 5 tickets - compared to what 2? on Sunday. I think there's also a lot more beginners on Thursday nights compared to the mostly boardsie people there on Sundays. I think if you play a good standard of poker you're better off playing against more of those people for a greater chance of picking up a ticket. That said it can be downright frustrating at times on Thursdays too.

Yeah sunday's free-roll was 2 tickets and €150 credit which Joe got for coming third

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,221 ✭✭✭Davey Devil

    Sunday you mean.
