NTL has shown a big improvement in upgraded areas.

I think the NTL service in the Dublin 24 area has improved a great deal in the last year.
A lot of people going for digital for the first time seem to go for NTL now,the lack of UTV and Channel 4 seems to be hurting Sky.
I wonder does NTL plan to upgrade the whole of Dublin as a strong signal is a must for stable digital.
One other thing I find that the small light gray box is a lot more stable then the old black box which seems to suffer a lot of problems.

I can only comment on Waterford city, but I would also tend agree with you. Our basic cable service has improved no end in the last 12 to 18 months. I cant remember the last time that the service broke down to be honest. Actually there was one time that the switched back to the old service of BBC Wales and S4C for a couple of hours for some reason.

On the issue regarding the digital. The quality of that seems to be pretty good on that now although we are treated to the occasional black screen on some channels now and again. All we need now is to catch up with the dublin line up. The silver box does indeed seem to be a lot more stable all the same. But as there are less components in these there is alot less things that can go wrong i suppose.

Slightly off topic for a moment:

I see the Ireland v Nigeria game was on ch 862 yesterday afternoon all be it 25 minutes late (someone must have forgotten to flick a switch). Iam just wondering though when the new Prem season starts in August RTE will have the rights to 15 FTA saturday 3pm games and Setanta will have another 15 ona ppv basis. Is it known yet whether NTL will carry these games and if there will be a season ticket for the ppv games

Mossy what part of city are you from. I know that some areas are been upgraded again especially parts further out the Dunmore Rd where their cable is pretty good but their digital its pretty cat. They say its something to do with the ESB or something like that.

Where I am though is very stable but I could indeed have lost the service 2 weeks ago but just may not have noticed it as I spend far too much time either working or online.

It's definitely not improving in the city centre ... if anything it's getting worse. Blacking out/locking up quite often now. Gonna have to start complaining soon ...

Should I assume when you say city centre you mean Dublin City Centre and not Waterford city centre....

Well, the service here in Dublin 6 W is $H1T to say the least :(
I'm very surprised, as my area was one of the first to be upgraded to digital about 8 years ago!!! I have the black Pace Di4010. it's ventilated and all that. I have to say, the silver boxes do seem better, due to software updates, but the picture on them seems to "black out" for a few seconds every so often. The picture hardly every goes (that is, if I actually get one) on my box, although they can be very blocky and pixely, and can freeze up a good bit.
