Compact Flash Card - unreadable

    Lo All,

After a great Sisters Wedding last weekend, I went home with my Canon A70 digital Camera which its 64mb card was 85% full and decided to upload the pics to PC.

One thing which did happen during the night was, the batteries depleated and the camera attempted to shut itself down but didnt get the lens retracted fully. So I used a loan of another persons batteries to shut it down.

The camera now with fully charged batteries will not read the card. In the information screen it does shown 57meg of 64meg used. I took another pic and it can now read that pic, but nothing previous.

Just wondering is there some sort of software I could try to recover my old pics. I know they are on there, but probably have a bad last file or something which the camera cannot understand. I would be willing to buy a CF card reader (either PC card for laptop or USB) to see if that helps.

    Cheers in advance,
P.s. hope its the real forum :)
    James.

Have the perfect program for you but you'll need a card-reader for it to be of any use.

Get PC Inspector Smart Recovery 4.43: here

Amazingly easy to use. Just install it, point it towards your card-reader and go. Does a pretty damn good job of getting everything back. And most importantly, free of charge & sans spyware!

Hope you get your photos back !

When you said you cant read the pictures, are they from the camera or did you connect it to your pc? Try conencting it to your pc and see whether it could be read.
Otherwise get a card reader, they are cheap enough and quite handy.

    Thanks IDM

Camera connected to PC, PC cannot read them, Camera alone cannot either.

Other problematic is the Canon A70 will appear as a camera, but not a removeable device, so i cannot assign a drive letter to it. anyone know of a workaround/fix?

    Thanks.
