    You might want to add
    FF 11
    FF tactics on GBA
    FF: Crystal cronicles on GC
Also chocobo racing game, can't remember exact title. And there are probably others too.

Heh, agreed. I'll be very surprised if 7 doesn't win.

For me, it was a toss up between 6 and 7 as well. FFVI was the game that got me into the series in the first place, FFVII blew me away. This poll has made me want to play it again for old times sake!

    cleared 7, 8, 9, 10, currently playing XI and X-2.

7 and 10 my favourites, i reckon XI will be good also

I'd have to say X but the only other one I've played was 7 and I only had one disk and no manual. Plus I sold my playstation. So that didn't last long.

    But I loved X. It's a feast of a game.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 77 ✭✭cr1spy

Although I loved FF7, am I the only one you thought FF8 wasn't THAT bad? I know a lot of people hate it, but it was different from the previous games, maybes thats why it is disliked. The card game was better than FF9 anyway!
I have to say FF9 was nothing great either, I'd put 8 and 9 on roughly the same level, tbh.

FFVII all the way baby. X is a close second best, 8 was cool, 9 sucked harder than the whore of babylon vacuuming her drinking straw collection, 6 was nice in a retro way (i only played the ps1 version of 6 when it was released a few years ago) and the others i cant comment on cause i havent played em.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,945 ✭✭✭Anima

7 is definetly the best but I think 10 is right behind it.

I really enjoyed playing X especially with the voice acting because I'm lazy and i don't like reading 10000 sentences. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

hmm i found the voices to slow and wished they'd just hurry up so i'd hurry the text along, that and the fact that the lips are out of sync as presumably its in japanese

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,945 ✭✭✭Anima

Well seeing as lip syncing is relatively new in 3d engines I think its ok to let that one slide but yeah it is annoying. I never really felt it was too slow though, possibly Yuna's voice where she pauses after every sentence, but other than that it was fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

WHAT'S Crystal Chronicles like? I hard its nothing like any other final fantasy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,136 ✭✭✭Pugsley

Its just a hack n slash evad_lhorg, no resemblance to any other FF game except the name. Its also hidiously tedious single player, never got a chance to play multiplayer tho, because you need a GBA for each player.

Have to say Final Fantasy VII. However FFX and FFVI are a very close joint second. FFX had a great set of characters that for once never got forgotten. FFVI would have the best bad guy ever, Kefka, if it wasn't for suikoden 2's Luca Blight. However theres just something special about FFVII. FFVIII had a ridiculous storyline and terrible annoying characters but was fun. I liked FFIX. It was fun and had great characters even though the story was weak. Its very like FFIV. FFIII and FFV are about equal and had the most interesting battle systems. FFI was good but has aged badly. FFII requires way too much leveling up to be fun. FFX-2 just isn't any fun and has a naff story and terrible characters. Haven't played XI yet. Heres how I would rank them:

    1. FFVII
    2. FFVI
    2. FFX
    4. FFIX
    5. FFIV
    6. FFV
    7. FFIII
    8. FFI
    9. FFXIII
    10. FFX-2
    11. FFII

Just to clear this up... 6 is where the girl is in the big robot at the start with two other guys and she has special powers/?

7 had everything and is almost up there with being my favourite game ever but its behind a few ie ocarina,

you just cant go wrong when you can dress up as a woman ina game and have some guy come onto you:D

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,408 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Yes 6 is the one with the girl in the big robot. Love the intro to that game especially the music. I don't think FF6's soundtrack has been beaten.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

I have only played the snes version. only found out yesterday they released 5 and 6 in 3d. ive never owned a playstation in my life and dont intend to buy one but just for FF7 maybe. i avnt played it in ages. ill never forget watchin my mate beat the game. and some big mother ****er used that 'supernova' move on him or soemthin. then there was this move in the very lst one on one battle and it just kicked the boss's ass straight away

X wins by a country mile for me, with VIII in second and VII in third. Yes, that's correct. VII in third. I think it's just cause I like a bit of romance in my stores, me being the sentimental fool I am. Also, I prefer X's battle system to VII's. My favourite battle system so far is prolly X-2's though tbh.

Then again I've only played VII, VIII, IX, X and X-2 fully.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,408 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

They didn't release them in 3D. They are just straight ports from the SNES. Theres nothing new except that FFV is in english. Even the problems with mode 7 are still evident since the PS is so similar to a SNES.

9 - vivi, that is all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭sound_wave

yes indeed vivi rocked, but its FFVII all the way for me! Started a new game the just the other day, looking at my old saves i have a total of 150 hours played, most of them prob at the golden saucer! :D What a game!

Aah! Vivi!! God i hated that little assclown! So horribly cute and twee, i just wanted to bash his face in with a brick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,680 ✭✭✭Tellox

I pitied vivi. Poor little ****er..

and ff6's sound track was by far the best ever. The decisive battle and terra's theme were beautiful.

ff8 had far too many random battles. And the junction/draw system was just frustrating. Considering I was about 11/12 at the time of picking it up,I never did figure the system out. I think I was near enough the end of the game when I did. Just in time for me to do my usual world exploration, like in all the FF's. (God I love the airships). Is a great love story, when you forget about Squall and Rinoa being siblings.

FFX was fun, but too much of a one-path story, imo. And I hated the lack of a real flying-around airship system. Really, that ruined it for me.

ff7 - Pucking Ferfect. 'nuff said.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,459 ✭✭✭seanos

Well, only played 7 & 8, so out of them, 7.
Squall such a bastardised feiced up character ... it was brillant.

I want more woman-beating characters in games ;) lol

One of the best songs I've ever heard I have to agree.

I never can quite figure out what I love about this part of a FF game, but damn I do love the side quest and level up part.

    That was kinda annoying alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,945 ✭✭✭Anima

Well it was the limitation of the engine i guess. Would you rather have a 2d map or very basic and crap 3d one? I think the way they did it was the best they could have done with what they had.

At least they had the search-for-cooridinates type of thing which sadly is absent in X-2.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,107 ✭✭✭TheSonOfBattles

I know it was due to the limitations of the engine, same as the fact that when fights start there's a loading screen and also it's prolly the reason they still have random battles rather than enemies on screen.

It's still an annoyance. Just an understandable/bearable one.

VII all the way, although they might have had blocks for hands... the game had everything you wanted and everything you didnt know you wanted until you played it.

Anyone played Unlimited Saga? cause i saw it in game the other day and thought it looked pretty sweet, if some one has some insight in this game i would much appreciate it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,726 ✭✭✭quank

    Cloud all the way

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,408 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Haven't played Unlimited Saga but it is getting atrocious reviews and is meant to both suck and blow. The previous Saga games were terrible as well. My advice: Steer clear and buy Disgaea instead.

I'd have to go with FF6. Was the first FF game I played back on SNES and I just love the huge cast of characters, the music & the epic storyline was wonderful.

In my personal opinion, Square's best work was on SNES, haven't been able to connect with any of the PS ones.

Adore & still play Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana & FFVI.

ps- I voted for FF3 by accident, cos with the American cartridge I have, FF6 is labelled FF3 so I slipped up with that one, d'oh ;)

Sadly they peaked at 7 and have not been close since. I didn't even bother getting that X-2 one.

Why does everyone say Kefka was a great baddy?

He was childish, over the top and just crap.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,408 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Kefka was great. He was totally insane. And the laugh cracked me up every time.

Have to Mention FF Tactics for PS1. Great game. One of the best FF games and also one of the hardest games ever.

is that the one that came on on GBA then also?

The one on the GBA is a very different game. Different stories and quite a difference in battle systems. The GBA game is more about the battles. The PS1 game has a very good story and a far better battle system. There is a huge difference in difficulty between the two games. I don't think there has been a more difficult game than Final Fantasy Tactics PS1 since R-type 1+2 while the GBA game is quite easy early on (although I've heard it gets harder for the last few fights).

    7 was the best of the lot, I liked 9 & 10 aswell. :)

Definitely FFVII for me. Playing through it again now. The music is great, couldn't believe it when I found the piano sheet music for all of the themes. Sweet.

final fantasy x is the best with out a dout

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,267 ✭✭✭Elessar

FFVII definately. One of the greatest games I've ever played. Fantastic storyline, so much to do and fascinating characters. You could even breed chocobos! (I remember trying desperately to breed the elusive black chocobo for ages! - jasus i was only a kid playing this game, oh how time has flown by )

Remember the scene when Sephiroth killed the little flower girl? One of the pivotal moments in RPG history, god I wanted to kill that son of a bi*ch (and I did :D)

EDIT: Whoa! Check this out - http://www.ffshrine.org/ffac/ffac.php . They're making a movie about the events after FFVII! I must get this.
