Renting a car, no credit card

Does anyone know how you can get around the requirement to have a credit card for car rental? The folks are off to Austria, and I am trying to book them a car. The quote I got mentions that you must produce a credit card in the drivers name at point of pick up and that cash is rarely accepted.

While I have a credit card and am willing to use it, my parents don't.

    Any ideas?

    Dunno.

Perhaps if you drop into an Irish branch of a rental place and pay the deposit in cash, and explain the situation, that'll work.

There are very few places that accept anything other than a credit card online because they can't verify your identity or take any other kind of steps.

I don't know how it works in Austria but here you need a CC number to book your car on the web but they ask for it again when you get the car and I used a different one once and they didn't check if it was the same number I used to book.

Now I've seen other clients before me paying with cash... maybe you can book the car with your card and let you parents pay the car with cash?!
Though you should check with the company that they will accept that (call them).

Now, they should get a C Card... but I know how the parents are these days they don't listen anymore! :D

They really don't want a credit card (bad experience long time ago). I was thinking of getting a card issued in my Dads name from my account, I reckon that might do the trick?

i picked up a car in tenerife with just a 200 euro deposit in cash which i got back when i returned the car.

i was very wary about using the card there as i've heard horror stories of charges being taken from the card months afterwards without the persons knowledge.
