Did 2 dives in Donegal over the weekend and a DPV would have been great. the current was a killer, used loads of air just getting down to depth and once there, the fun was just beginning. On the second dive, we didn't even find the wreck as we couldn't cover any kind of significant area to search for it.

What DPV are you using and where are you doing the course?

    Hi xzodia

I have borrowed an Oceanic Maco DPV a few times and it’s amazing how your air consumption goes down and its great for searching for wrecks and cover the whole wreck site, make sure that the unit you buy is depth-rated for the dives you plan to carry out. Some recreational units are rated only to about 30m. I will recommend the Oceanic Maco DPV unless you are going deeper than 55 meter, any deeper and you have to dig deeper into your pocket. For the more serious DPVs, the main manufacturers are Farallon and Aquazepp. I would be careful with the Gavin DPV`s as they are constructed for freshwater and have had some issues with saltwater. Try to keep off the SeaDoo DPV`s as they are great for snorkling but not for scuba.
Your instructor will probably guide you to make good decision but you can have this in mind.

I have only used DPV`s diving solo and you should consider buddy up with one that has a DPV, if you are not comfortable with diving solo.

You should try to get a rope connected to the DPV and your harness so you can use only one arm.

Have fun and hope for some god viz.

    Jan-E.

Cant remember the model i was using but they are rated to 30 meters which is fine as the course is in water that is only about 6 meters.

The course is run by Flagship scuba near Ringsend across the road from the greyhound track

The Farallon MK 8 DPV. Hugely expensive but just LOOK at it!!! God I want one, top speed a roaring 3.2 mph.

Here's a nice website with a comparison of the aquazepp and a Gavin scooters. If the Farallon is a Ferrari then the Aquazepp is a Humvee.

This is the new state of the art : http://humaniforminc.com/bullet.htm

"Speed, burn time, depth rating, no torque steer, ambidextrous handle, infinitely variable trust settings and latchless design are just a small list of what makes this scooter stand alone in the market place today"

They also have a top of the range model: http://humaniforminc.com/vector_series.htm

So forget Farellon, aquazepp and gavin..

xzodia, you probaly used the SeaDoo thingy on your course :
