I would love to have ITV 1 Wales instead of UTV but I suspect it was just a momentary error unfourtunately. I can't see NTL dumping UTV because they have such a presence here now that it would very difficult to dump them and there are advertising issues involved as well

Prehaps NTL will get sense and dump that Utv in favour of a real itv region.

Perhaps they lost the UTV feed and switched to wales as a temporary substitute.

Slightly off topic, but has anybody ever noticed that during normal programming the UTV picture quality is perfect - but it becomes blurred when they cut to the UTV adverts. Happens every time, weird.

and if your watching after 11 or so during the week theres no ads at all, just the "back soon" screen at the breaks. I take it no1 is interested in advertiseing

I think that is when they switch over to the core ITV network. There's space for each station to insert their own commercials as required. Normally, broadcasters put out the freebie or bonus airtime they give to advertisers during off-peak hours. Perhaps UTV don't give too much away!!

Yeah UTV are notoriously tight with their money, they spend as little as possible on original programming and make the bulk of their profits on the back of programmes produced by the rest of the ITV Network. This combined with the fact that they own several other media interests is why they make more profit then any other ITV region. They should be ashamed of themselves, we would all be rich if we never spent anything.

Never a truer word said! Fair play to UTV for keeping costs down and running a tight operation. Having said that it really annoys me to hear them going on about access to the RoI market and competitio when:

    - nearly all of their programming is subsidised by the ITV network. UTV as one of the smaller franchises have always benefitted in this manner.

    - They have an unusual sitiation where they have more viewers outside of their franchise area then within it. There is no cost associated with these additional viewers when purchasing programme rights and there is vurtually no infrastructure/technical costs.

-They are unregulated in a market where they extract advertising revenue.

Where I do admire UTV is that they have taken an all-ireland media approach with their acquisition of radio stations, Internet services and expansion of TV coverage. This could have been driven by any Dublin based concern but the all-Ireland approach is being driven by Belfast!

I've noticed this happening frequently. Almost as often, they sometimes switch to feeds from Sky Digiboxes.

Yep, I've noticed that too! It's a strange one alright. It's the same when watching UTV on Sky.

NTL in Waterford would have had a problem with their UTV feed that is all,so they switched to HTV for the time it took to get it back.

Actually mossy, you should have checked if it had teletext, ie if they took it off air or from a digibox.
