Splitting a cable

I got Sky Plus and have my old digibox. I bought a satelllite splitter in Maplins so that I could split one of the cables going into the Sky Plus box off to my old box. ( I don't want another cable coming from the dish ). So far I can't get the splitter to work, do I need a particular type of cable, or will this even work ?

Many thanks for any replies.... Sky Plus is great.

As you have sky+ I assume that you have a quad lnb on you dish. Therefore you have 2 spare connections left on lnb. Just run a cable direct from lnb into second receiver.

It is not possible just to split one of the existing cables coming into the sky+ box. Hope this helps you out.
