wireless network woes

I have been using my 802.11b network of about 8 months now but recently my pc (in another room) connection ramdomly jumps for 11mbps to 0mbps and no signal, then after about 2 secs starts climbing back up to 11mbps and excellent signal. This problem has only started happening in the last 2-3 months, nothing has been changed on the access point and my laptop connectes fine - although its in the same room.

Anyone have any ideas whats going on and any ideas on how to fix it ?

Well there could be a number of reasons but it looks like it may be interference from another wireless device nearby. Did you buy a new cordless phone around the same amount of time ago? Or a video sender? Or a wirelss mouse? Or a wireless anything? Even a microwave could upset the signal but only while it's on, obviously. If you don't have any of these it's possible it could be a fault with the PCs network card - If you haven't already done so you should try moving your laptop into the same room as your PC and see if the same signal dropping happens on it.

and of course any of the interference producing items mentioned above could be in the neighbours house and cause the same problems

Try using a different channel for the wireless connection?

have a cordless phone but it usually isnt used - just plugged in with the phone in the cradle. Didnt think it could be the neighbours - but they have changed recently. Dont think its the card cus it works fine some days. I try changing the channel and see if anything changes - thanks for the help
