    Hi All,

Sorry this post is so long, I'm just totally p'd off at sky digital right now. My arms hurt after typing this whole thing out!!!

To all of you who think sky's €10 offer sounds like great value, think again. Read this post, about the amount of bull I've got from sky, and then re-consider.

As many of the regular Satellite posters may know from my post in the Satellite forum, I was freaked out by the fact that I had to wait for FIVE WEEKS to get sky installed. Well I didn't think anything could have been any more crap - but it could have been, and it was.

The guy was supposed to call out to me on Saturday 22 May. I had got my card in the beginning of May. So anyway, I had to get up really early, move my 75kg telly out from the wall, shift my ntl digibox out of the way, pull out furniture to allow cable to be layed etc. etc. As was said on the info letter, the installers were to telephone me before 9am to inform me when they were likely to arrive. So 8am came - okay, maybe that was too early.
    9am - no phone call
9.30am - starting to get a bit pissed off ; still no sign of a phonecall or an installer. I had things to do!!!
At 10am, I was so pissed off I rang sky. I was told that the installers mobile phone was off - a message had been left on his messageminder. He was to ring me asap.
    11am - nothing.
    12am - still nothing.
    1pm - yep; nothing.
2pm - so pissed off I rang sky; again. This time I was informed that the company that does Irish installations for sky was shut and that there was no way of contacting the guy to see what the "problem" was. They told me the installer should still come out though.
    3pm - nothing.
    4pm - nothing.
    5pm - I had had enough. I went out.
9pm - came home to find 1 missed call on the caller ID. It was a private number.

So today (monday), I rang sky. I was told that yes the company had been shut. Yes, I was booked in for an installation on Saturday. Yes, the installer was "sick" and had rang in sick that day. So I asked when I could be booked in again. I was told June 1, which is a Tuesday. The installer was to ring me before 9am blah blah blah.

This is what really pissed me off:
    1) Why, if the installer had rung sky to ring in sick, did he not ring ME to tell ME that he would not be coming to MY house to install sky?
    2) How do I know that the installer will come out to me on Tuesday? Will I have to take a day off work, just to sit around on my arse waiting for a guy that ain't gonna come?!
    3) Why was I not given a priority installation for this week (I have this week off)? Why was I chucked to the very bottom of the waiting list after having to wait for 5 weeks?
    4) Why was I not given compensation?
    5) Was the installer really sick?
    6) If they rang me on saturday, why did they not leave a message?
    7) If I wanted a weekend appointment, I'd have to wait until the 25th of June!!!

And this is what REALLY drove me mad - sky insisted on the phone that it is "not their fault" and that "we are deeply sorry" (my arse they are!!!) and that "they rang me on numerous occasions on Saturday". They did not!!! I have a call ID and I only got 1 missed call. Why did they not leave a message.

So I have just called the miserable bastards up to say that they can shove their reputable installers - I'd rather pay an independent (chances are I'd get a much faster, better and more reliable service) to put my box in. And then, wait for it - they wanted ME to pay the 55c stamp to post their crappy videoguard card back to England!!! After having been through many bitter battles with ntl digital and installations and poor service quality, I really thought sky would be much better, but I was very wrong. At least when ntl said they would call, they called. So I sent the card back in an envelope, with no stamp, and put FREEPOST in the address. If they don't get the card, I don't give a s**t - it's "not my fault" if An POST & Royal Mail won't handle it!

So, if anyone is thinking of getting sky direct from sky - I'd definately think twice. When you look at some independant's, who charge full whack for installations, I don't blame them. If you think prices are high, just ask yourself this - what do you want? Do you want to pay a fairly "high" price and have sky put in the way you want it, and have it done speedily, efficiently and properly, and have a reliable installer who will come on time? Or do you want to pay €10, and get pushed around by a shower of b******s who really couldn't give a damn? I know which one I'll choose!!!

BTW. I saw an interesting offer being run currently by a retail outlet - FREE sky digital installation (of sky+ or free sky digibox) and Sky Sports & Sky Movies FREE for one month. Sounds good, so I think I'll get it there. Besides that, i'd rather my money be kept within Ireland, than going to BSkyB!!!
