Did anyone else here talk that Charlie Bird might be replacing Carol Coleman in Washington for RTÉ?

would that be a promotion or a shafting? Bird would appear far more higher profile than Coleman.
[edit] of course then i would miss the blindingly obvious. Do they feel Bird would be a better person to have covering the us elections?

Yes, read it in one of the Sunday Newspapers alright.

As to whether or not it shall come to pass, that's to be seen.

As to whether it's a promotion/demotion or whatever. As the highest paid reporter in RTE I'd say he wants to do it himself (assuming the reports are correct). There's no way RTE would suddenly tell the most widely recognised reporter in the country that he's off to the US.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but from what I hear, he's a cert. to go this time, Robert Short is due home after the election.

Really hope it's not the case, Bird shouldn't be able to call the shots on what he wants to do. Short has been much quieter than Coleman was during his stint. Time to send out someone who's actually interested, and interesting, hence Bird not being my choice for the post!
