when you get your eircom homestarter dsl username/pwd does this mean you get an email addy @eircom.net with the same username/pwd combination? i heard you do but when i try it I get the "invalid username/pwd"...doesn't even distinguish if there is a username or if i got the pwd wrong.

No, your DSL username/pwd isn't used for e-mail. You can register eircom.net e-mail addresses at http://autoreg.eircom.net/
