    Hi all,

I bought a new system and Im a little dissappointed with the OC ability of the Radeon(got fron OC.co.uk). Is there no standard with these cards. From what I'm reading its hit or miss.

With ATI tool I max out my GPU at 398 and Ram at 365.Butt running at that really brings up the temp mid 50's. When I lower the GPU to 391 and RAM to 351 thing are stable. Should I send this back, Whats should be the general running temp for these cards.

    5900 - 5950 with 3dmark03
    43,450 - Aquamark
    47 sec with SuperPi.

    Machine is as below

    AMD Athlon64 2800+ 1.8ghz
    Mobo: MSI K8T Neo-FISR
    512 mb(2x256) TwinMoz PC3200 DDR
    120gb Samsung SATA 7200rpm 8mb cache harrdrive
    Hercules 128mb ATI Radeon 9800Pro
    400W be-quite PSU duel fan w/LEDs
    WinXp Pro SP1
    Be-Quiet 370W PSU
    NEC ND-1300A DVD-RW
    Moded I-Cute case

    Cheers

The 9800Pros run quite hot. If you look here you'll see what arctic quote, and that's all I can find on temps. What you have is consistant with my own readings, after installing the Arctic Cooler . I think your overclock is a little below average, though I would have thought you could get your core to 412 or so. But that's probably assuming your core is an R360. Maybe your gfx core is a 350? That might make this kind of difference.

Does the Herc have a temp probe built in?

As far as Im aware its a 350 core.
I put a Temp probe onto the heatsink. Icute temp probe comes with the case.

I'm just worried as I've only now read on the OC forums that alot of Herc Pros have been returned.

Just to let you all know that Ut2k4 crashed a couple time last night. On a fresh install of WinXP using 4.5 cat drivers. Never got this crash on my old MX440.

Well firstly different card overclock differently. You may be able to overclock more if either your case is cooler, or you fit in Artic Cooling and some ramsinks. Also it would increase if you use AS5. Having said that, your overclocking gfx seems fine. I'm running my card between 50C-60C so dont worry too much on the temperature.
As for UT2004 crashing, that could be a catalyst problem. Maybe you should try installing Omega's driver.

I mentioned this in another thread. A friend got the same Hercules after reading good things about it. His overclock is pretty much the same as yours. I got myself a Saphire 9800 Pro and a mate got a Sapphire non-pro and we are both cloking over 450 with the core..

    Right

    Idle Temp is 48 oC

    Running UT2k4 is 58-60-62

When running at stock 378/338 using ATI tool getting artifacts after 1 hour. Temp is only 55oC when this occurs.

at 55oC Loads of Artifacts in 3dmark Mothernature most noticeable.
I'll give the Omega drivers a go.
but I've contacted OC.co.uk. we'll se what happens.
The temp of the case is 28-30 CPu at 39-42.
I just have one of those feelings

JTG, do you get zero artefacts at that overclock? Any sparklies on the water in Mother Nature on 3dMark03 or on the Rhino?

I just did a mock up of the air flow of my case.
could this be a problem. I rekon it might be
I'm going to put an inlet fan underneath the GC and turn the top to an outlet fan.
    any suggestions.

is that inlet on the side above the GC? Would be good to have it blowing on, but in general I think tour airflow is good. Not sure about the blowhole. I would think tht should blow out of the case allright. Sure are alot of fans! :)

i've got all the fans hooked up the Be-quiet PSU special fans power cables.
This keeps them quiet when idle and ups them when under load. nice feature of the PSU.
The middle inlet it a good bit above the Graphics card. The more I look at it the more it looks like the bottom left it no getting much air flow.

Ahh the messing, you got to love it :D

top fan should defo blow out. heat rises. thats just pushing the heat back into the case.

got the following response from OC.co.uk

    "Dear Sir

Further to your email please can I ask you to return the item following the

returns instructions I have just forwarded to your email account"

Straight off the bat no questions asked, Very strange indeed. All I said was that the graphics card was running very hot and I was getting strange crashes.
The threads on their forum about the fault card has now disappeared. V.Strange Also last night there was another thread about why the orignal thread was deleted and no thats deleted..Seem very suspect indeed. Seems to me that they are defo aware of the prob with some of these cards and hopefully I'll get a better one soon.

Other pep have said that Herules never did OEM products. And since OC.co.uk are selling them as OEM that strange in itself. Smell like refurbished to me. Given that Hercules are pulling out of the Graphice card market.

    I'll keep you all posted.

Did you install an artic vga silencer onto the card?

Did you use as5 when doing this?

If your just using stock cooling then it's perfectly normal. If it is with the artic then your temps are way too high by the sound of it. Is it making good contact?

Your case airflow seems fine except for the blowhole.

I sent it back to OC.co.uk. they offered me a refund or a powercolor.
So I decided on the Powercolor.
i'll let ya'll know how i get on, ya never know I might get lucky and get a R360 core:D

Also as a note on the case fans. I took a couple of the fans out and put both the side and top blowing in and a FAN and PSU blowing out at the back.
Of all the cinfig I tried this gave me the best temps.

    CPU idle 35'C
    Case temps 28'C

If I change the top to blowing out then the case temp ups by 3'c. mad I tells ya.
