Should have BAR retire Sato?

Given that DC thinks that Sato should have been called in and retire when there was an obvious smoke coming out of the car, do you think BAR should have done that?

Personally I think they should have pulled him in. The car was obviously smoking from the word go and it was just a matter of time. I guess BAR was hoping it didnt blow up.

Should BAR pulled Sato in when the car was obviously smoking? 7 votes

yeah there is the hope he wouldn't blow up but i presume they knew what the problem was, there was some thinking that it was just over filled with oil but i would expect BAR to know better.

definetly not sato's fault though should have been up to BAR to call him but perhaps they where trying stuff when it went up?

thats the second time i recall someone smashing up coulthards arse, didn' scheuy run into him in that great race in spa around 97 or so when jordan had the one-two, i think coulthard faired better then though :)

There may be a case for calling him in in monaco, but on any other circuit then no.

Well I presume the team were under the impression that it could have been an overfill of oil. Which is a reasonable excuse. But with telemety surely they could see something was up? Either way, I would say no. Yes it was an engine problem, but it may have held on for the race, but it didn't, I doubt there was a way of knowing that it would blow quite so badly and cause such havoc.
Hell, Ralf Scumacher nursed a blatantly sick car round the circuit from lap 1, there was a clear problem there too, and his engine eventually gave up too, it just wasn't on such a scale.
Williams were hoping he could nurse it home for points, and I see no reason as to why BAR shouldn't have done the same.
