New Pioneer DVD 5100H arrived yesterday; then I managed to bugger up the vcr scart connection on the back of my Sky+ box - I'm afraid if they take it away I'll lose all my Sopranos episodes...bugger, bugger, bugger.....

    And your point is?

You have nothing to worry about, this is a hardware issue with your box nothing to do with the software or hard drive which stores your recorded programmes.

All they will do is replace the scart socket surely.

I admire your (probably misplaced) optimism.

You could have taken it to a repair shop and told them to just repair the connection, it would have meant paying for the repair yourself.

I can see it now ... man records hundreds of hours of TV programmes he would never be able to watch in the first place (and probably doesn't want to) Why? Because with his new gadget can and therefore why not. One fine day box crashes/breaks/gets stolen and Tv programmes disappear. Depressed at the loss of programmes man conteplates the future and its bleak ... all those hours of TV that he could have watched but didn't.

I wonder do St. John of Gods have a treatment programme for the effects of virtual TV loss??

Perhaps there's something wrong with me! I've had a video recorder for 8 years and I only ever bought 3 blank tapes.

BrianD, if you want to constantly contradict people, be generally, post post after post of sarcasm which is simply only to put up an argument, then I think you'd be best suited here:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?forumid=364

I amn't at all happy about having my UTV thread shut.

But to keep to the topic here, I can understand totally why coupland is depressed. You buy a sky+ box and expect that all of your fav progs are going to be saved 4 ever and then they're erased. I know how you feel mate :(

It's like putting your favourite video into the VCR and then having it chew it

Who did I contradict and I have certainly not been sarcastic with anybody on this board. That is normally reserved for your good self. Having said that few seem to be able discuss the issues affecting Irish broadcasting without resordting to why isn't UTV on the Sky Digital box I'm paying a small fortune for. Anyway, that thread seems to be closed.

In any case, perhaps my attempt at humour has flopped. My point being is that there must be many Sky Plus users who are amassing TV programmes on their box and never get the chance to watch it. Very often we are cash rich but time poor. We buy a VCR or a Sky Box and live in anticipation of finally catching up on those TV hours and then, oophs, the technology fails! As if working all those extra hours isn;t bad enough ...

humour to me ... making the point that it is one more thing to go wrong that can really send people over the edge. Imagine the bad day at work and to come home to find the &%£*ing machine didn't record!

Yup as one of the afflicted :D
Sky plus does tend to fill up with stuff you never will have time to watch.
I find if theres a good movie on at an awkward time I press record in the menu and there it is-another thing to be watched.
I wouldn't diss Sky plus at all though for that, the series link recording is simply brilliant as is the dual record while watching another recording feature.

It is in my experience exactly what they say it is, it changes the way you view TV,you can do what you want for as long as you want in the knowledge that when you come back, even if you missed the start of your favourite programme, you can start watching it from the begining during the recording and view uninterupted and seamless to the end.
    I love Sky plus :)

Oh and guys, this is a friendly place, if ye don't get on just use the ignore feature rather than express your dislike of one another here thanks :)

Just give up sleeping, its unproductive anyway. That way you have 6-10 hrs a day extra to worship tv and beer.

As a BB fan,(sad I know) I spent last week trying to watch all the stuff in my 97% full Sky+ drive in preparation for the start of BB5 as I know I will watch little else for the next 9 weeks, and the series link record function is very useful.
