I'm off to America for just over 3 months in 10 days time. I'm trying to figure out if there is anything that I should do before I go.

You know, something that I won't be able to do over there. Something Irish I guess. Something that as soon as I'm on the plane that I know I'm going to regret not doing. Something that I'll be pining for all summer?

So, if it were you going is there anything you'd like to do before you left? Anything at all or is Ireland that bad?

Well, apart from "being original" and all that, have a decent pint of Guiness Extra Cold, Irish Coke (not as sweet as American, if you're into it. The drink.)

    Exactly. Sausages.

Superquinn sausages and Clonakilty black puddin'. That's what I miss the most. Eat them until you are sick of them, then you wont miss them.

I'm going home for a week in June, guess what I am going to be living on.

Apart from the usuail stuff like the "Drink" and a good old fashioned artery cloging fry up!!!! MMMM.....
A good night out with close friends would be on the top of my list...
Theres nothin quite like missing friends when your abroad...
Also if your a romantic take pictures of the sky here just so you remember how crap the weather is here most of the time so you dont have to miss it...
Also just as an after thought, have a good steak before you go...

If you're a smoker, bring some decent cigs - American cigs suck ass.
Er, actually their beer sucks ass too, a good off-license should have some imported stuff though.

Gather your mates in a real irish local and stay there until kick out time. All back to your place for a session and a good fry up the morning after washed down by a nice pot of Barry's Tea.

That's what I plan to do before I go travelling (whenever that happens).

    Best of luck Stateside!

have yourself a decent pint of guinness because it'll be very difficult to find one over there. its just not the same!

anyway, 3 months isnt that long. you should be looking forward to all the new stuff you'll be experiencing over there.....its not like you're never coming home! :D

And wash your hair, just before you go, so you'll have a towel wrapped around your head on the plane

    They sell cadburys chocolate there.
Am I the only person who likes hershey's chocolate?
I recommend Denny Rashers and Club orange for examples of stuff you can only get here.

    red lemonade is a must.

should bring an irish whiskey with you too if your bringing the red lemonade...nothing like whiskey and red...dunno wha it is like with JD...

stuff already said like tayto etc

One thing i recommand doing before you go is walk down city streets that bend...it was the one thing that made me feel uncomfortable in manhatten...all the streets were straight and the whole city was so uniformed in its design. Go get lost down the backstreets of dublin/cork/galway...prob not wise to do it in limerick.

watch a hurling match (god i'm beginning to sound like my dad)...

Bring a slioter with you...even if you dont like hurling its a great weapon and grin with satisfaction when all the yanks think its a baseball...(dunno why i do that but its reassuring when they explain to me i should have it fixed and a demonstrate the joy of a sport where you dont stop every 5 minutes)

also depends where in america you go...

if going to bible belt...go to a discussion on evolution or other *anti-christian* meetings.

If going to texas....go to a pacifist meeting (ok low blow)

And the one thing you gotta do before setting off for anywhere in america...go to a socialists meeting :D

Living abroad in Brussels for the year, the thing that I miss, that you should definitely bring, or get sent over (even though some of them may not be allowed) are...

    Chef Brown sauce
    Irish bacon n suassies
    Tayto
Kerrygold (nowhere else does salted butter!!)
    Lyons/Barrys tea
    Dairy Milk

As to what to do, see friends you haven't seen in a while and have a decent pint of Guinness
