Windows 2000 Problem at start up

Funny problem, half way through starting up windows 2000 the monitor goes into standby mode, I can hear the machine load (i.e. i can hear the HD been accessed) any ideas why this happens

it turns out to be a corrupt video driver, thanks anyway
