It's not that they've run out of stories, the Simpsons always had pretty flimsy storylines but great jokes. However in recent years all the talented writers have left the show leaving hacks to continue the money making machine and to give every minor Hollywood star an appearance.

They'll keep making the show as long as it gets the ratings and makes the money, which it's certainly doing at the moment. There's another few seasons left yet I'd say, although I wished they killed it years ago when they were ahead of the game.

No program can keep up the standard for ever but I still enjoy the new episodes

It's better than 90% of the **** on TV

The problem really is that it isn't a show anymore, it's just a flimsy pretext for guest appearances.

I think the worst episode ever had to have been when they went to England.
There were NO jokes whatsoever, just a load of guest voices.

I think a lot of how the Simpsons has changed is that it's moved from having stories that in someway related to family life to more fantastical/surreal elements. Where once it had a narrative drive now it seems more like a sketch show pulled together around some 'crazy adventure' instigated by Homer or Bart. It's difficult to say that it's dipped entirely in quality but there's definitly less episodes that have you laughing out loud rather than simply smirking.

Yes the best episodes where usually two normal everyday storylines, that got twisted around, most jokes where a pop at american culture and habits. Nothing too surreal. Now it feels forced.

I always thought the best jokes were the small ones which happened quick, and if you blinked you missed them.

The problem is the writers. The show has become a parody of its former self. for example Homer used to be somewhat self-centred, slow but ultimately with a good heart underneath. However, now he is 100% compulsive, obnoxious and self-centred. No social commentary remains - in its place - absurd reasons to fly to another country - place the family next to some cliched stereotypes, overcome some minor (yet again cliched) obstacle and fly home.
