    Howdy,
I am in the process of building an SMS gateway. I'd like to have a rack mount PC running the control software and an external bank of GSM modems in a rack mount chassis. Anyone know of any rackmount GSM modem pools?

    Thanks,
    ct

i could be wrong but as far as I know you aren't able to to use any gateway on most networks only the one set up by the network your on, e.g. i think anything but 086-800200 is restricted on the o2 network.

If you want to send and receive large volumes of SMS Messages (which I presume is why you're building an SMS gateway) you would be better off to get a direct connection to an operators SMSC.

Both Vodafone and O2 offer this service in Ireland (for a price) and the APIs for developing such an interface are available on the web.

There are also third party providers outside Ireland who provide such services, and depending on who you go with and the volumes of SMS messages that you'll be sending and receiving you can get some pretty keen prices on the SMS traffic.

For example, see this crowd http://www.clickatell.com/

There are good reasons for not going with a direct SMSC connection (main one is what if your net connection dies?)

He is probably going with both....

Also by saying gateway id say he means a gateway for sending SMS's from his network not acting as a new SMSC.

Sorry - I should have been clearer. I'm not only going to use the device solely for SMS traffic. There will also be outgoing voice and data traffic.

Connecting directly to the SMSC doesn't meet my requirements. I actually need a rack that contains a bunch of GSM modems. Something like the unit shown in the picture below would be perfect!

    So, any pointers guy?

    Thanks for the replies!
