Don't give him money, he'll spend it on sweets.

Talk to his parents, find out what he likes, if he likes football, buy him a jersey, etc etc.

Bit late though seeing as it's today :)

    That's another reason why I'm saying don't give them money. €1000, a 12-year-old? Ffs

    I made almost 200 pounds (1989)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,563 ✭✭✭leeroybrown

I didn't even get close to that. You people with large extended families! ;)

Ironically, most of the confirmed kids will end up completely disinterested in religion. The only reason most of them bother is the money (and of course the wrath of parents/schools/etc if they cause trouble).

I made about 100 pounds out of my confirmation back in 1994

and now I'm an atheist, heh.

Yeah I think I made something similar, maybe £150 in the same year. €1000 is just madness.

That said, I made over €1500 on my 21st last year

Bastard. All of you with large families are also bastards. I've got one aunt and one uncle. One set of grandparents. How was I ever going to make loads of money at my confirmation :(

As a result, I can be embittered. So when the child comes in, impart some Biblical wisdom to them by slapping them with a wooden stick and saying, "Spare the rod and spoil the child". If nothing else, they'll remember their visit to you far more than the other relatives... the little money grabbing feckers.

He spent almost €1000 on clothes? You're not worried he plays for the other team, are you?

I got about £170 in 1998, which was about average. I only have relations on my mam's side though.

I gave my god son €50 for his communion last year, his uncle on the "other" side asked him how much was the most he got, then gave him €51.

He told me this & I sent him back to tell the other uncle that I'd given him another €20 (I hadn't), so he got another €20 of him... :D

Anyone know the 2012 rates to give to a neighbour'a kid?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,395 ✭✭✭✭mikemac1

Make 65 punts in 1993 and I tell ya it was a fortune back then

Also computer games were ridiculously expensive back then
You'd pay about 50 punts for a SNES game
Nowadays with inflation and the conversion that's not far off 75 euro

I think that was the point!

Someone asked about the going rates*:

€50 for a godchild (more if he or she is the light of your own life)
    €50 for a close friend's child
    €30 for a close friend's child
    €20 for most others

    *dependent on means.

I got a total of 100 Punt when i did my confirmation. And i actually gave most of it to my mam and stuff.

I think the minimum is 20, but increase that in proportion to how close you are to the family.
