    cheers rev

i have nwn and its first expansion, FF XI, morrowind and FF X-2 to play. i keep saying this but i find rpg's hard to get into, with all the detail and depth but i heard baldurs gate was mean to be good so i think i'll pick it up as well.

I would strongly advise u to get Neverwinter Nights, with the expansion packs ( hordes of the underdork at least ).
Very good single player and excellent multiplayer, not that I ever get a chance to play, although I've noticed a few people on the server these days, keep meaning to justr in for a half an hour or so.

i'd recommend Baldur's gate 2 if you were planning on single player only and maybe Neverwinter nights if you gonna try multiplayer lan or online.

Theres an icewind dale 2 aswell Rev

Any fan of RPG's should play baldurs gate. If you really have time to kill get all of them and play through in the order of their release using the same character :)

Its great fun and you really get attached to them :)

As far as detail and depth.......There is an advantage to knowing a thing or two but its not really essential. Alot of it will just kinda explain itself, and theres always the net.

Dont forget Planescape:torment! It probably had a better gameplay than even BG 2.
I have them all and love them all. Though i cant seem to play them again now that im on NWN.. im used to fancy 3d graphics now

I say start with Baldur's Gate 1 and it's expansion pack (although the expansion pack isn't all that great). It's the best RPG I've ever played and I still go back over it from time to time. The story is amazing and the world is full of detail, with great characters to meet and join up with and loads of side quests.

Baldur's Gate 2 is a bit like a direct continuation of 1 and the storyline is also fantastic. If you start playing 2 first, it takes away from the over all story a little (ie you recognise all the characters you meet in the first game).

Anyway, I think there is a boxed set that has both games and there add-ons available so that would save you time.

There are also plenty of mods around for BG2 & TOB to add to the games longevity.

    Here's a list of available BG2 mods.
They have reviews of the better ones here.

Theres even a mod available that lets you play continuously through the entire trilogy BG1/SOTC/BG2/TOB (as well as being able to use BG2 settings & class kits in BG1). Be warned though it's a hefty 10GB install

I would recommend playing the Baldur's Gate games in sequence. You'll feel much more rewarded for it in the end!

Plus you have the option to import yoru character from BG1 to BG2.

Also, it's fun to meet all the BG characters you killed in the first one and say "Wait a minute, aren't you supposed to be dead?"

Ah, Drizzt, you were no match for me then, and even with your warband I kicked your poncy Drow ass...

Interestingly enough, my younger brother's bard mopped the floor with him rather early on. If I recall, only one other character died.

God, but I hated that bard...

Still, you have to kill the dragons. MORE XP! I MUST HAVE MORE XP! QUICK! BOIL AN ANTHILL!

yeah i remember i killed my fave character in BG1. It was Minsk, i did not get onto his quest fast enough and as i was on the way to rescue whats her face (jaheira?) He attacked my party so i killed him. Then he was alive in the second one.. eh what? :D Ah well magic and all.

Ya thats the balls with Minsc. You gotta keep the witch too. Of course you could walk her into a room full of Orcs :)

She does get some nice spells later on

I think I might install BG again....afterall I am finished for the summer tomorrow..hmmmmm

I still love the intro. Sarevok has to be one of the most badass villains around. Although Irenicus was a right bastard too!
