Personally i think the thing is too big
i mean look at this picture

    psp_screen.jpg

I think its worth it for the bigger screen... though a bigger screen is going to draw more power from the battery etc. Wonder what the battery life is REALLY like. Sony says about 8 hours of playing games, 10 horus of music or 2 hours of watching a movie stored on disc.

I think its too big. The SP can fit in my jacket pocket, and I'm sure the DS will. You'll need a laptop case for the PSP!

holy crap that thing is huge. i think the ds looks pretty **** compared to this just on the eyes but when i saw metroid running on it i was like "ha sony and microsoft are buggered". that thing is gonna cost a fortune and id say the ds willl be fairly affordable.

God, the casing looks like a Junior Cert Materials Tech project. Looks terrible!

And the screen is massive, way bigger than I thought. If it's backlit/side-lit, and if it'll play video by streaming then the battery life won't be worth two Tamagotchis in parallel.

You think they could of given the PSP a clean before taking the picture L5 posted. Looks like someones been playing it fair to long and has left sweat all over it and then put it on the ground to let hair and dust get all over it.

Id be worried about the screen scratching easily

That screen would get scratched to hell! I think the GBASP shows clamshell is the way to go with a handheld console. A lot of children buy handhelds, and i've seen a lot of old GBAs unplayable because of the state of the screen. Now imagine those same kids with one of those...

Looks a bit bigger then they should have made it. Its suppose to fit in your pocket. Although big screen is nice for watching movies etc.

Only thing is is .. BLACK! Why the hell did they go for the black over the brushed solver finish they are moving towards? The pictures of the PSP beforehand when it was silver etc. looked a lot more inviting that that dity thing.

Liked the Dpad on the artist impressions ones too. That one looked well cool ... this one looks kinda put together by a 5 year old.

i think that picture gives the wrong impression. according to this site it's 6.7 inches long. It looks more like nine in the picture. I always imagined it being bigger:D

Maybe that photo was too close up or something
It still looks too big for a portable IMO though

looks portable enough for me. I'd much prefer the big screen than making it smaller especially if I'm going to be watching movies with it

    its cartridge based machine then?
So how can i 'backup' my games when i buy them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,283 ✭✭✭RobertFoster

it looks huge in that picture possibly because:

a: the camera is close (look at the size of her hands)
b: she's only a little woman (but, look at the size of her hands!)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,951 ✭✭✭L5

"smaller especially if I'm going to be watching movies with it"

you wont be watching movies unless you buy them in UMD format. And theres no way id be doing that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,894 ✭✭✭evad_lhorg

ah its not as bad there at all. its about the same size as the original game boy advance. to be honest im not mad on the ds and id probaby prefer the psp(although i wont buy a console by anyone other than nintendo unless its got better games). but the psp is gona cost a fair bit id say.

I suppose the price, size and battery life are are issues to consider but still, the possibility of maybe one day being able to play GTA San Andreas on the toilet would outweigh all of those problems :)

IGN has got a 'hands on' article about the PSP here - http://psp.ign.com/articles/514/514135p1.html

I know this is completely off topic but did anyone else notice the camel toe going on in the picture L5 posted up? Sadly I think that's the first "booth babe" I've seen from this year's E3.
