    So do you buy series on DVD.

    I have only bought Family Guy and 24

    I only bought Family Guy because they don't repeat it as much as other shows

    I thinking of getting ER Season One

    Anyone know where you can get The Practice or 3RD ROCK?

    So far I've not bought too many:

    * The League of Gentlemen - Seasons 1 & 2
    * The Office - Season 1
    * Family Guy - Seasons 1-3
    * Babylon 5 - Season 1-5 + The Gathering/In the Beginning
    * Twin Peaks - Season 1

    I'm going to pick up 'Millennium - Season 1' when it's released this Summer.

    As far as I know, for some crazy reason the only TRFTS season released so far is season 6.

    Ah, finally. Check out the release date on season 6 (yes, that "2002" isn't a typo)

    I'd just thought to check 'cause I was sure I'd seen an ad for S1 when I was looking through some DVD mag recently.

    Don't understand the idea behind releasing season 6 first. Must have been something to do with broadcast rights I guess?

    You've made the wife a very happy person, she was skipping around with a big grin on her face when I told her S2 was in July. I went checking and DVD Soon have it for $CAD75 with free shipping which seems like a very good price.

    The worst purchase of a TV series on DVD I ever made was Chris Morris' "Jam". 28 sodding quid for 2 and half hours of largely unfunny weirdness.

    "My Wrongs..." was pretty crap too come to think of it. Be funnier in future, Morris.

    when is Director's Commentary out? ....

    and why is the four disc Family Guy boxset (1 disc of extra footage) .. on sale for nearly €90 .... when the three disc set is only around €45-50?

    That's because the "four disc set" is eight discs with the three seasons and an extras disc in four Amaray cases in a cardboard box whereas the "three disc set" is a three disc set with season three only in three Amaray cases in a cardboard box. The sets are about the same size because of the nicer case season 3 has in the compendium.

    (play.com have the bigger boxset for UK£44.99 by the way and in the recent Fox promotion had the individual seasons for £10.99 each (now at £17.99) while HMV had them for €19.99 (now around the €40 mark)

    Yeah, DVD Soon have been much cheaper for a few series than Amazon notably Nikita, B5 and Profiler. €45 for a season is very reasonable!

    Still though, I got 5 seasons of Buffy from Amazon for less than 1 season in HMV so I'm not gonna totally blacklist them :)

    As for Kindred, it's a good series, very short though. Aaron Spelling and vampires, what's not to like hehe. Stoopid FOX cancelled it & the superb Profit really quickly that season grrr :mad:

    /me prays for a Profit DVD release....

    Watched it and all, but was i going mad, orr is the second disc the same as the first just in a different order?

    Yes, except there are differences in editing and certain scenes have been run through filters. It was run late night on Channel 4, entitled 'Jaaaam'. Hardly worth watching.

    The show has its moments, but they're few and far between. It's a real disappointment after the Brasseye release.

    (sorry, only saw this now)

    Robbed this from play.com:

    28 deleted scenes
    Pilot pitch 'Family Guy' featurette
    Uncensored featurette
    Series overview featurette
    Behind the scenes featurette
    7 Fox.com promotions
    Audio commentaries on 14 episodes

    It actually looks far more exciting than it is (the "Fox.com promotions" are just that, promo clips from the web site). The kind of thing you'd take if it was going but not something that would make you go and buy the box set if you already had all three seasons (each 17.99 on play at the moment, box set of all is 44.99). Having two copies of the episodes with commentary seems a bit wacky. I'd happily pay a few (just a few) quid for the disc on its own if they released it as a standalone though.

    And still no sign of the infamous missing Osama bin Laden scene in the airport cut from all broadcast versions after 11-09-2001 before the DVDs were released. I suspect that footage has been ritually burned.

    Indeed. Fortunately, I have the footage right here :D

    For those of you curious, it's from the episode "Road to Rhode Island", Episode 2x12.
    The scene is where Stewie gets his weapons through security by singing a song. In the DVD release, it cuts off right there. Here's the added dialog that I've transcribed:

    Stewie: Let's hope Osama Bin Laden doesn't know show tunes
    [Camera pans to reveal Osama Bin Laden has walked through the security detectors. Osama Bin Laden starts to dance on the spot]
    Osama [singing]: God I hope I get it, I hope I get. How many people does he need? How many boys, how many girls? [As he sings, his armed weapons go past security, who continue to watch him perform]

    Incidentally, Osama is singing the song "I Hope I Get It" from the Broadway musical "A Chorus Line".

    The missing footage is ten seconds long and, given what it does, it'll probably never be reshown...

    I see that Lazer Video on Georges Street have Ulysses 31 to rent, I may have to give it a look. I've not seen it since I was a kid.

    We have the French edition of Mysterious Cities Of Gold. My wife grew up in France and really wanted it so I picked it up as a present but the transfer is bad. The picture is grainy and dull and the soundtrack is all over the place - loud one minute quiet the next. I know it's an old cartoon and all but I hope they'd fix this if they were to release an English version.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 18,004 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

    If anyone's seen the Ulysses 31 DVDs, could they comment on the quality of the transfers? Have the episodes been cleaned up at all?
