In fairness at the moment most of the tech support jobs seem to 17-20K. You need to have certs even to get that. The rate is falling through the floor. I've struggled not to drop money for the last two years of contracting. I expect that the next job I get I'll have to drop a shed load of money.

For that job if you look at the tech support application form you have to give them details of "Publications, Research, Interests or Patents" and "Subjects/Dissertation/Thesis in final year Bachelor's and Post Graduate Degrees" and "Subjects Taken (Leaving Certificate or equivalent)" and grades recieved. Plus all the IT training recieved.

Teagasc wouldn't be the worst place to work..
I think they are engaging in some major ICT investment.
It is also a research/advisory/educational institution so a different environment to your normal business

In fairness tho, they are looking for a serious amount of qualifications for a tech
support position... And because its a gov body, your pay goes up in incrememnts,
so there is no real chance of a major pay hike if you prove yourself to be worth
    more...

Some places are really taking the piss when it comes to what they require an
employee to have for the most basic positions..

I can understand some places wanting a degree or an MSCE etc as both are a
measure of someones level of education and technical knowledge to a certain
degree but obviously experience in that particular area is a big factor..

I remember seeing an ad for some tech position in a sunday newspaper a few
months back and they were looking for MSCE, CCNA, Degree and at least 3 years
experience and then offering 20k a year, like is that taking the piss or what???

But I suppose €25k in Carlow would give you decent enough life as rent and all that
would be a lot cheaper than here in Dublin and with it being a gov body, they would
have overtime/benefits and plenty of scope to do a bit of contracting on the side
until your money was good enough to survive on that alone.. :)

I dont have a degree so Im out of the running... :dunno:
