    Evening all,
I installed the omega drivers for my ati radeon 9600pro recently and have tried a few of my games on high detail (Vice City/COD). They run fine for a while until i hit escape or go back to the game menu. Then the screen dims. For a while i thought it was just Vice City. ( you know the way when you save it comes back at night time) but it just happened in COD aswell.
I have used the overclocking utility to oc a tiny bit (about 10%).
Is this the result of the overclock? It only seem to happen sometimes so i cant really tell if it is the oc by reducing the core/memory to normal speed. ( Well i could if i wanted to wait a few days but i though i'de give you knowledgable peple a shout first!)

    any ideas?

    cheers Wavey

This is happening to me as well and I too am using Omega drivers. The only difference is it only happens if someone is online/offline on my yahoo or msn messenger. However its only happened in COD. I've not noticed it happening to any other games. Not playing Vice City. So when I play COD, I just turn off my messengers and everything is fine again.

    Hey neo.

Are using the same gfx card?

You reckon its a clash with messenger?

My card is in my sig.

I thinks its more of not liking any inteference I think. If no one on my messengers list comes online or goes offline, it will run fine. On other games, the graphics turn haywire for a while, while the messengers message appears. The moment it dissapears, everything goes back to normal apart from COD. COD goes dark when this happen.

I've noticed a similar problem with my 9600pro. When i use the graphics card settings to increase brightness/gamma in-game, if i alt-tab out or something pops up, the gamma/brightness settings reset to default.

The only way to get the brightness to increase is to quit the game and increase it again and load the game up again. Very annoying!

I use Powerstrip to increase the ingame brightness. It allows you to hotkey certain setups (brightness, gamma etc) to a key so you can easily switch between ingame and Windows.

I have my game settings bound to ctrl+alt+F12 and to switch back to normal I just hit ctrl+alt+F11.

When I altab it does sometimes go back to normal, but a quick tap of the hotkey sorts that out. I'm using a Radeon 9600 PRO too.

Aye your computer is switching from your direct 3d color settings to your desktop colour settings. I was getting the same thing with certaim games so I just have them set to the same level now.

You see the problem is that my destop is a bit too bright now, but in-game (especially in counter-srike) these settings are too low, and dark corridors look pitch black, so hotkeys would probably be my best option.

Now to figure out how to do that...
