    Hey,
Just wondering can anyone help me. I brought an ipod at Christmas in the states and set it up using a friends lap top(i had no fire wire at the time). However since then i have tried to set it up on my computer at home but it wouldnt pick it up.

In order to see if it was the fact that i had set it up on a different computer i scrapped all the songs and attempted it again on a completely different computer. But to no avail... it still didnt pick it up. i have since been advised that there is a fault with the ipod and that i will need to have it looked at.

Does anyone know is it under warrenty in ireland? also where do i bring it for someone to look at? Thanks!

As far as i know, The Apple Warrenty is worldwide. Try ringing your local Apple Centre.

Having said that i just found this . Says nothing regarding the iPod however:dunno:

What type of firewire card do you have in your PC?

I tried using the firewire port on my sound card and a cheapo firewire card which I picked up in the States both with disastrous results. I finally splashed out on an Adaptec card and I have had no problems since.

All they really need is proof of purchase. If you have proof of purchase, e-mail them a copy. But only send in the part that has a date and what you ordered, if possible don't send out the part where it details the adress that it was delivered too. That way you can't be hit with "You removed it from america, no warrenty".

Then just hope for the best. Thats what i did for my Creative Zen jukebox when i borked it.

Did you update it or restore it? Try the restore if you didn't already.

Apart from that there's nothing i can think of apart fom trying a USB 2.0 cable?

Sorry but is it just that the PC wont pick up the ipod or does the ipod not turn on?

Thanks for all the suggestions axel. At this stage have tried both restoring and trying it with the updates. It the PC that wiont pick up the ipod.

Finally got through to the Apple Helpline and hes gonna ring back once hes looked into a few thing he said..so fingers crossed!

If your m8's laptop will recognoise your IPOD then there is nothing wrong with it. It sounds like you have the same problem that I had - crappy Firewire card.

Adaptec 4300 firewire cards are the best but are expensive. Buying one solved all my IPOD problems. I also have a Maxtor external firewire hard drive which didn't work properly either until I bought the Adaptec.
