Was thinkin of upgrading my PC. My brother will be in the US in June and he can collect Stuff off relations there If I get stuff shipped to them. Am looking for Processors, MB, RAM, Video card.

Any recommendations of good places to buy this online in the US?

    [Edit]
Massive sticky thread on where to buy stuff. Not much in US though.
    [/edit]

    Thanks

CompUSA and Newegg are very popular.

The biggest saving will be on next-gen gfx cards, tell him to bring back loads for resale ;)

well if you are planning to buy stuff with your Irish credit card and getting the stuff shipped to an address in the states you'll be in for a fright .... that is one of the most common way to commit credit card fraud .... so it will most likely no happen, you may even get your card cancelled for your troubles. Your relations will have to roder with their cards...... and newegg would be hard to beat.....:p

I found instore prices to be stupidly high in Compusa and best buy and a few others i checked out in NY, for instance at the time a 80GB was €130 over there and €90 in jaguar.

I intended to get some goodies but prices werent good enough to justify bringing it back.

PC Parts (with the notable exception of really high-end stuff) don't seem to me to be that much cheaper in the US than they are here. If you want a bargain, consider picking up a laptop, a PDA (esp. if the manufacturer's American) and/or any Flash ROM devices (thumbdrives, memory cards, and so on) - they seem to be good value. MP3 players such as the iPods and Muvos and whatnot are also cheaper there.

Wireless kit (802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth) is quite good value too, as it's the "in and trendy" thing over there, but remember the mains voltage issue and that you'll probably have to buy new power adaptors for any mains-powered devices you buy (Laptop/PDA PSUs are the exception as they're meant to travel).

(Just don't forget that you may well be getting your bargain at the expense of ease of warranty replacement!)

[EDIT]I may be telling you something you already know here, but just in case, don't forget that US shops advertise their prices before sales tax (of as much as 8.5%, IIRC) is applied - this may make things look cheaper than they actually will be when you get to the till[/EDIT]

    Hope this helps,
    Gadget
