Bugger. No O2 stops seem to have left in stock, same with Xtravision and when I try to even look at it on the vodafone site I can't see the phones on offer....there's no mention of the n-gage at all.

Anyone know anywhere I can get one of these, preferably on an O2 upgrade?

I checked out vodafone.ie yesterday. I've never been a vodafone customer, but it has the n-gage listed as 109 euro, 1st time connection, ready to go. Fifa 2004 is also listed as being included. Can anyone confirm this? And is it only 109 euro if i purchase it off net?

It's 109 euro for a 2st time connection if you buy it in their shops too, although stock is an issue.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 358 ✭✭begbie

Alright, thanks. Was thinking stock would come into the equation! :dunno:

The one on vodafone.ie doesnt have FIFA with it tho does it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 jole1

I bought n-gage yesterday for €109 coz 1st time connection. I want to stay with 02 due to cheaper prices etc, does any 1 know if the online unblocking codes are safe to use on the phone coz fella in shop said they are impossible to unblock,
also if ye are buying games www.play.com ship em from Uk for no extra cost in 2-3 days so buy games online & u'll get em cheaper

It says on vodafone.ie that fifa 2004 comes with it. But i don't know for sure! :dunno:

i unlocked mine - took about 1 minute

Download Smart DCT-4 Calc from here and read the tutorial from here. You do this at your own risk and probably invalidate your warranty.

    edit: changed links

Got mine arrived today from vodafone online as well. Quite a good bargain for €89 with fifa game, €60 credits and lot of accessories come with it including a stereo handfree and a 32MB MMC card.

Unlock it was very easy too.

Anyone know of somewhere that sells some thing like a MSI USB Transceiving Key - Bluetooth which presumably would be a lot more handy to use than messing about plugging and unplugging usb cables at the back of my pc when I want to add some mp3's or games to the mmc ?

Elara and Komplett both sell usb bluetooh adaptors. I'm sure high-street rip off merchants have them too.

I was in every Vodaphone store in Dublin city today with no joy, so i just ordered the one of vodafone.ie , looks like an even better deal too, with punters receiving MMC cards and stuff too. Will let you know how it goes when it arrives monday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,719 ✭✭✭kaisersose77

is the 32MB mmc not the one with nokia game on it? its in n-gage already , well it was in my one from o2 and the "hands free" are the earphones u need to listen to the radio. I doubt vodafone are putting extra stuff in the n-gage box( when i got mine from xtravision- it was an n-gage box inside an 02 box) so n-gage stuff in n-gage box and o2 stuff in o2box.

The bluetooth (I think) only fills the phone's memory. To fill the mmc card you have to use the USB cable. So I've heard anyway....I don't own one yet, to confirm this.

You'll be lucky. I haven't been able to find them anywhere for this price. I don't see them on the Vodafone online shop for this price either. So they must have taken it down.

The Bluetooth dongles are only really usefull if you want to connect your n-gage to the internet Via a computer. You can use agile messenger, netfront and wireless IRC to take the place of some regular computer functions.

    Sorry about that Ricardo, Doh!

D4 you need to put the mp3's on memory card, a 32mb one comes with it,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,363 ✭✭✭chabsey

Am I right in assuming that if you buy one on vodafone, unlock it and use your O2 sim then there's absolutely no way of getting any free call credit from O2?

Obvious indicators are that they've no reason to give you call credit but maybe there's a way? I hate having to buy a vodafone one and lose the free credit just cause o2 are out of stock.

The bonus pack version for €99 is still available, this is for vodafone customers who want to upgrade their phone, you still get the €60 credit added to your own vodafone sim,

Chabsey- I sold the sim that came with it , dont know of any other way around it,

Being an O2 customer can I buy that bonus pack version and unlock it for my O2 sim or is it only the other, sold out, version that could do that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,963 ✭✭✭long_b

Chabsey, I'm in the same position - an O2 customer but bought the bonus pack version.

AFAIK I'll be able to unlock it and use my O2 sim ... will let you know ...

Funny they let me buy it without entering a valid Vodafone number, huh ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,363 ✭✭✭chabsey

Carphonewarehouse still have O2 N-gages in stock. Mainly cause they're selling them at 229 and refuse to acknowledge that the prices have fallen. According to them they'll sell the Vodafone ones at 99/109 euros but not the O2 ones cause they've not got word of the price drop.

They will price match but as nowhere has an O2 n-gage in stock there's no way of getting them to price match!

I don't suppose anyone knows anything about how carphonewarehouse work in terms of 'getting word' of how the rest of the shops in the country have dropped prices. I wonder, when the Qd comes out will they still insist on charging people 229 for the older machines? I know they're higher spec than the QD but still, seeing as most people who really wanted one got one at 99 euros, it doesn't seem realistic to keep selling them at 229.

are they worth it? they're only a bargin if you need one...

I've heard they're rubbish phones...are the games that good? What other uses do they have? What's the largest card it can take for MP3?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,618 ✭✭✭milltown

    @ Robert Foster

It's a lot of technology for €89 so yes IMO it's worth it.
The hardware is top notch. Aside from the side talking nonsense the phone is great, and tri band too, which the new one isn't.
The games are pretty good even if the screen is a touch small, and the wrong shape.
Other uses: Play MP3s, Movies, USB drive, manage contacts á la PDA, radio etc.
512MB I believe, possibly depending on brand.

I bought one when they first came out but sold it on because I figured I wasn't getting enough use out of it's other features to warrant having such a (relatively) bulky phone but I've missed it since. I was going to buy a small MP3 player until I saw the post about the €89 N-Gage. I already have the MMC card so for 89 eurons I will have me a new N-Gage with MP3ability again.

    @ Longfield

If the order is shown as picked then it's on it's way to you. I ordered mine on Friday night and it's "picked" too.

    Got mine today too :D

Funny thing though; When I entered the generated unlock codes it kept saying "code error". Rather than risk using up my five free attempts and lock up the phone altogether I tried my O2 sim in it anyway, and it worked!
It seems my phone was never locked in the first place.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,264 ✭✭✭RicardoSmith

    Over the last two weeks

    Tried O2 - sold out
    Tried Xtravision - sold out
    Tried online - sold out
Tried vodafone shop yesterday - sold out but more tomorrow
Tried vodafone shop today - guy in front got last one

    Aaarrrggghgh!
