Problems with Chorus

I'll try to keep this brief....
Over the last few weeks the Chorus basic cable service has gone down at least once per week. (i'm in North Co. Dublin.....and it affects my whole area each time). Coincidentally (or maybe not!) it always happens on a Wednesday night sometime after 6pm or so. Each time I ring up and they tell me that 'an engineer is on route', however every time the service is not restored until sometime after 10am the following morning.
So it looks like they dont ever bother to call out an engineer to fix the problem, instead waiting until the 9 to 5 engineer starts the following day.

Does anyone know are Chorus obliged to provide a 24/7 service, ie: do they have to respond to a major outage immediately or are they allowed to let it remain down until the following working day?

Do I have a case to bring to the Director for Consumer Affairs or is this something they will just ignore?

Apart from Sky digital we don't have any competition in the area so for now I have no choice but to put up with this monopoly. I'm paying approx. 27Euro per month for the basic cable package and so far they have refunded me 1 month due to the problems over the last few weeks.

    Chorus always aggravated me.

Why not just dump them for Sky? Best thing I ever did - well, related to multichannel television anyway.

Sky's family pack will set you back about 30 euro a month if even that - the picture quality is superb, you get over fifty channels (including some good ones!) and you'll be able to watch all the BBC channels (in anamorphic widescreen no less).

Give ComReg a bell / e-mail. Chorus have certain obligations as part of their licence. They also take ComReg seriously - anecdotally the fastest way to get Chorus to act is to threaten 'I'll tell ComReg'.

Thread moved to the ICDG Cable forum, you should be able to get some more help there. :)

I work for Chorus in another area.
Service and install, assisting a Service Tech with MMDS and broadband mostly but hey...
    Can I help?

Have you ever tried complaining in writing or on www.chorus.ie/support.html it may go further or bypass phone jams...

Being employed by said company, though a lowly minion, I can bog off if you want.
I have no influence/contacts/anything and obviously don't speak with authority on behalf of the company or anything.
