Basic Sky+ questions

Sorry for covering old ground, but the information I could find was pretty old...

Anyway, can anyone tell me the best/cheapest way to get a new install of SkyPlus? The website says it's €1 install but I need SkyWorld, the call center says it's free install, and I can take just the movies, and the resellers say it's €10 install. Am I better off with Sky or a local reseller? Can I get it without Sports and save myself some money? And out of curiousity, what's the difference between the Family and Value packs?

Oh, and when they say "install", do they actually mean installation of the dish, or is it really a different setup fee?.

even if you take the full package for just the first month, it works out a lot cheaper than paying full installation costs. You can then downgrade after the first month.

Ah, so when they say "installation" they actually mean it LFCFan? Cool. So would you recommend going with Sky or a reseller?

I went into Dixons when I got mine installed just 'cause I happened to be outside thier store when I decided I'd get it. I used Sky for my Sky Plus and out of the 2 installations I was a lot happier with Sky. I guess it depends on the installer.

Is that the guy Tony that posts here? I was thinking of ordering there, but I see installation fees, which was what prompted the question in the first place... :)

By the way LFCFan there is a sticky thread at the top of the forum which lists all the Sat. shops.

The idea behind this is to adv. people of the companies that sell Sat. equipment with out suggesting one company.

    Thanks,
    Eóin

Yes thats correct, unfortunately we are unable to offer discounted installation as Sky will not pay us for the balance of equipment and installation charges. We have still not been paid for installs which took place last year!

Sorry I cant be of more help.

Looks like a long wait for Sky to install:http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=158847

I bought my box online from an "Irish Supplier in Dublin who happens to be a regular poster here!!!" :D and installed it myself, it is really easy, just ran an additional cable in, swapped the lnb, PM me and I will run you through it.

Had the box next day, installation took me two hours, no problems and no fees!

Edit Sorry misread post, thought you already had a Sky sub.

I don't need it until next month anyway, so it doesn't really make a difference (although I guess I'd better order it now). I hope they won't try to charge it to my card before the install though. Elara tried that on me once and I got /very/ annoyed about it...

Might be worth thinking about just going for the standard box ad then after a month go for SKy +. That way you get a second box that you can use for BBC etc in another room.

I was checking this out on the Sky site Tony, they seem to be saying that to get Sky+ with free installation, you need to transfer the existing digibox to another room. Is that right? I was actually thinking of going the whole hog and getting the second digibox, but it's a two room flat and although my comp has a tv card I don't think it's worth the extra €15/month.

Yes probably to get free install you would but it would be worth paying the install if you want to get BBc etc in the other room, you could even run the cable yourself.
