this seems like best place for this to me

Im organising a school prom (dont even ask why)
The school is having sfa to do with it

Anyway : My question is, can i be held liable for anything that goes wrong on the night? My name is on the booking form and i sent an email confirming it but havent signed anything. Am i Liable for damages etc? And can i be blamed for underage drinking at the event? ( legally, not morally)

The problem of underage drinking falls on the hotel where it is held. It is up to them to enforce the law.
I don't know who would be responsible for damages.

No, you wouldn't be held responsible for underage drinking, at school proms (?) they would usually ask anyone that looks young for i.d. at the bar. After that, it would be the management's responsibility.

As for damages, then yes, the person who booked would usually be held liable for this. Someone has to be and as you're the organiser, then it would fall to you. I'm assuming you would know everyone attending the prom. Have a word and tell them that any damages caused will have to be paid equally between the group. If you know these people then surely they'd have the decency to do this.

    Good luck!!

way im gonna do it is charge everybody 30 when the price actually comes to around 26 a head and then if there is damage done ill have a good amount of money left over to pay it.

prom, graduation ball, debs whatever you want to call it its the same thing

I remember having a pre-debs around xmas time but a Prom(?) thats a new one on me. Too much american TV i tells ya! Its turning the kids heads to mush.

As for the matter of liability, technically yes you would be liable but the venue would have to be able to prove it in court and if you dint sign a contract i would say that wouldnt be an easy thing for them to do.

If there is no damage caused you get to keep the extra cash, right?
