I recently moved into a new house. The satellite dish is still on the house and house appears to be wired for it (ie there is a cable coming out of the wall beside the standard ariel connection. I dont want to subscribe to sky but is there any way that I can use the existing ariel to pick up free to air channels??

If you buy a second hand sky digibox (usually around €50) and connect it up you will get BBC1, BBC2 and all of the other digital BBC channels without any subscription. You will also get a certain number of other channels free. Most of these are shopping/religious channels. There is talk of ITV maybe becoming available later this year.

Do you have any idea where you would get a second hand digibox?

Check the free adds in the local paper or buy and sell, etc. By the way there are boxes with cards for sale out there. The are upwards of €200 and MAY give you ITV Channel 4 and five. However they may only work for a short time.

The link above gives a list of channels available for free using the Sky dish.

    HTH.

Since the dish is already installed, I would recommend a second hand digibox. You'll be able to access BBC Three, BBCi (interactive service), Sky News Active etc. A second hand sky digibox gives you the option of subscribing to SKY at a later date if you so wish.

Otherwise, you could get a standard Free To Air digital receiver (you would not be able to use interactive features or subscribe to SKY at a later date with this receiver) for about €99 new.

all previous posts assume this is a sky dish pointed at the sky satellite
this may not be the case - most likely so but could be another dish pointed at another satellite.

Have a Revez combi box for Saorview and Free to air. Has been working perfectly to date. However, as of yesterday when I switch the TV on the Revez logo comes up as normal but then the TV screen goes blank (black screen) rather than going to a TV channel. Any suggestions/advice much appreciated.

Look into getting a Freesat box, will be the simplest and most user friendly box to buy.

They come in non-recording and recording versions.
