Will Pierce Brosnan Be Bond....James Bond Again??

For the past few weeks there have been stories in the papers about Pierce not doing another Bond movie because the producers dont know what the plot of the next film will be and weather they even want Pierce to do another one. Some of the producers feel he is to old and need someone younger. Pierce is only 50 and Roger Moore did Bond films in his late 50s and all Pierce wants is to a last one for the fans. I think Pierce has been brilliant as Bond, the films were going threw a bad patch in the late 80s and when Pierce came in he gave new life to the Bond character and the Bond films have made the most money while Pierce has been 007.
I hope he does another film, i would love for Quniton Tarentieno to Direct the next one cause he said he would love to do it with Pierce. Die Another Day i thought was poor so the writers need a good storyline and a good Director for the next one.

After Pierce, I wouldnt mind seeing Colin Farrell as 007. he is a great actor but i dont know if he would do it. I dont think huge jackman would very good.

    What do you think??

I thought the Dalton Bond was pretty good, but as for Brosnan he certainly could do another Bond before the Greacian 2000 is required by the bucket...the next Bond should be Clive Owen.

The pierce brosnan bond films are going through a bad patch imo, golden eye was good, the last one was sh**e. I too think he should do another one, unless he looks like roger moore it the last few he did.

I hope to good colin farrel doesnt get the bond role - he doesnt look the part at all never mind acting

I cant stand Pierce Brosnan, hes has the acting ability of a mid morning soap star. The sooner hes finished as Bond the better.

Anyone know why he cant do a decant Irish accent? He is Irish after all.

At 50 he is too old.
He is looking very wrinkly now and has aged visibly since Goldeneye.
All of the actors being touted to play Bond are too young.
Bond should be in his mid thirties.
The thought of a fifty year old mand cavorting with nubile 20 year old babes and throwing his weight around stunts wise is unrealistic.
Roger Moore became a joke in the latter films .
His double and stuntman were involved for nearly 60% of the shooting.
    Crazy.

I would like to see Brosnan do one more Bond movie. After that he will be too old. Goldeneye was the best of his Bond movies, I think he is suited to the character.
When the new Bond is selected he better not be some 20 something american Dawsons Creek type actor. It would ruin the character. He needs to be middle aged.

I really hope Pierce Brosnan does another one. I think he's a great Bond, he's just unlucky that the writing for all his Bond movies since Goldeneye have been terrible.

Now if Quentin Tarantino was to get involved, it would give the Bond series a kick in the arse that it so very badly needs.

As long as its not Colin F-ing Farrell I dont care. Even detective Sergant Byrne From Fair City would be a better choice!

Die Another Day was the only **** Bond film that Pierce did, all the other s were pretty good. He definatly has the ablity to ply the part it's just that the writers aren't writing good stories for him.

And i dout Coln Farrel will get the job. He's to much of a gob****e. :D

The main problem with the last three Bonds has been that they were effects showcases. There was no real story to any of them. I think that Dalton was the second best Bond after Connery. The only reason people hate him as Bond is because the films tried something new, we saw a humane side to Bond instead of the usual some unstoppable killing machine.

I def agree with mike65. If Brosnan isn't up for another one then Clive Owen has to replace him. Don't think anyone else could pull it off.

I seen Clive Owen on Jon Ross over the weekend and i dont know if he could pull it off. i havent really seen him in anything so its unfair of me to say he would be crap, but from what i saw of the interview i dont think so. we will just have to wait and see.

    Well here's a homework assignment, then ...

If you've got broadband, check these out:
    The BMW Films

Season 1 is terrific. Lots of big name directors & actors.
Sure he's in the car most of the time, but use your imagination

Here's the second part of your homework....Croupier is being shown on Channel 4 on the 18th May. This is the film that started on the James Bond stuff. I haven't seen this myself so I'll also be undertaking this part of the assignment :dunno:

Goldeneye was the only decent 'Brosnan' Bond.

I for one would like to see Vincent Cassel as Bond.
Can't you just see him in the role?

Failing that, what about Guy Peirce? I'd say he could pull it off.

Yeah Clive Owen should be the next Bond! He's the only one i can of that i can see dooing it justice. I don't think i could take Colin Farrell seriously as bond! Hugh jackman should stick to playing super heros Thats what he does best!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭joe_chicken

I'm sick of all this bad mouthing Die Another Day....

IMO... its the best bond since Goldeneye....

Its got a f*ckin invisible car for gods sake!!!!

an ice castle.....(wow)....madonna....(mind you she cant act...but that probably endears her more to the bond series)

lasers....(it wouldnt be a bond film without them)

    and the opening sequence rules!

Pierce should stay for one more.....

then Clive Owen would be good, if he wasnt so damn english

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,010 ✭✭✭Raoul Duke

As for Colin Farrell as James Bond...he's just too young. But he would make a good one I feel. Remember his role in Minority Report. He was pretty smooth in that. He has the looks and the acting chops necessary in my opinion. Another drawback to him getting the job would be his wage demands. The other bonds were never superstars before they became bond. In other words they were pretty cheap.

The argument between Brosnan and the producers centres on the casting of Britney Spears as a bond girl. He's basically said that she's a ridiculous choice and far too young to be a bond girl to his aging Bond. He's entirely right IMHO.

Goldeneye was far and away the best of the Brosnan Bonds though, to be fair, Die Another Day wasn't bad. The World is Not Enough and Tomorrow Never Dies, however, were UTTER shite. Dalton had the best scripts that were ever written for Bond movies and that's why he's far and away my favourite. Yes, i know Connery was suaver, cooler and wittier but Dalton gave you that sense he'd just pull the trigger instead of fucking around with elaborate plans to kill you. He was a cold blooded assasin and that's what made him brilliant.

The Tarrentino angle is a story created by the media. Basically, he was asked in an interview if he'd be interested in acquiring the rights to Casino Royale (the only Bond the Brocolli family don't hold the rights to and incidently the first book). This was only ever made in spoof format by David Niven (and featured a young Woody Allen as Jimmy Bond  ). Tarrentino implied that he would. Roll forward a few months. Brosnan's argueing with the producers over the next movie, insisting on a good plot and no Britney Spears. The press ask him would he do Casino Royale with Tarrentino. Brosnan says, sure, why not?. Media print that the movie's "being planned". Look forward to it all you like, it won't happen. I for one, am relieved about this. Tarrentino is the most over-rated director of all time. Don't get me wrong, he ain't bad at what he does. But he'd ruin a Bond movie.

As for the next Bond? It'll almost certainly be Clive Owen. It's not like there's much competition for the role, is there? Farrell just plain doesn't deserve the role, he's too much of a gob****e and he'll probably have imploded by then anyway. Brosnan put's it mopre diplomatically:
Asked, "What about Colin Farrell for 007?", Brosnan replied: "Colin. No! I think he's a great actor but I don't think he's right for Bond.
Orlando Bloom's just too damn pretty. Hugh Jackman, I can't put my finger on it, but
no. Jonathan Rhys-Myers, too young. Christian Bale, I could live with, he was certainly able to handle himself in Equilibrium. Jude Law, is again too prissy for the role so I'd imagine it's going to be Owen, he certainly looked the part in The Bourne Identity.

le'me explain... english people dont make good bonds!!!

(they're good at lots of other things, but not being bond)

There was a 'Replacement Bond' poll done in the UK just a little while back. This is the best link I could find relating to it: link

-1. Colin Firth: obviously the ladies choice. Smooth, I guess. But wouldn't say he's really the Bond type.
-2. Clive Owen: probably my #1 choice. He can act. Has done a few actiony films ala Bond (The BMW Films).
    -3. Christian Bale:

I agree. Am a big fan of Equilibrium & thought he did a great job with his role in it. Haven't seen him play a 'British' part recently but am sure he's up to it. He is Welsh after all. He'd probably bring a new assassinlike insensitivity back to Bond. Maybe a good thing ... who knows.

Firth looks too much like Rupert the Bear!

Now things are getting ridicolous. Colin Firth ?????? Orlando Bloom!!!    Where did that idea come from? I won't go into how bad those 2 choices are and also why they have about as much chance of becoming Bond as Jackie Healy Rae. Are there any reasonable ideas for Bond out there that haven't been mentioned before?

So far I like the idea of (in no particular order):

Bale (I agree could bring a lot of damn cool intensity to the role)

Jude Law (I acually think he would be pretty good. He did mad psycho killer in Roads to Pertition and he has a good range in him)

Clive Owen (I've only seen him in Bourne Identity. I don't get what the fuss is about based on that. I'll watch Croupier on tv soon and try to make up my mind then)

No one else. (There must be someone else...surely?)

Heard on the Gerry Ryan show today that this guy wants to do Bond!! He's after spending 150,000 over the past 5 years working on his Bond portfolio which he has sent off to the Broccoli people in the hope of being offered the role. I think he's done one film or something.

His point was that Connery was pretty much an unkown when he started out in the Bond role, so why not him. I don't think he looks right. Did anyone else manage to catch the Gerry Ryan show today? Or am I insane?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,363 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Jude Law's just too damn small and skinny to be Bond. He's a fantastic actor, but he's just not cut out to be Bond.

Bale is growing on me more and more. I could see him being a Dalton-like, true to Flamming's vision, Bond.

This Tarantino thing is thickening...Uma Thurman has reportedly said she'd be a Bond girl, but only if she got to kick Bond's ass...

And for the record, Goldeneye is actually my favourite Bond film ever, and I think Brosnan has the perfect mix of playboy/ killer that most of the other Bonds tend to botch. Connery was suave, but he looked about as physical as a particularly weedy science teacher. Brosnan looks as credible in a tux as in combats. And he would never, ever wear a Safari suit.

New Bond wise, if I had to choose an established actor, I'm inclined to go with Bale, despite the fact that I hate Equilibrium with a burning passion.

Well the Bond profile is pretty precise, really. Must haves:

    -Tallish 6' - 6'3"
-Dark brown/Black hair (can obviously get a dye job, but that often looks un-natural)
-UK/Ireland/South Africa/Australian/Kiwi for the ability to put on a good English accent.
-Can't be young ... a 20 something bond would be weird
-Can't be old ... don't want him to age out of the part too quickly
-Obviously has to be very attractive & be able to act the part !

I can't honestly think of that many actors that fit into this basic framework and I can't imagine them pulling another George Lazenby type for the role. (For those of you who don't know, Lazenby was an Aussie model who'd done practically no acting before being chosen to play Bond.)
