I've got UTVXL & the problem is that it turns off every 2 hours. I've checked up the settings to see if there's an autodisconnect in there but there isn't. It's very very annoying. Does anyone know what the prob here?

It tries the main number first, the 1893 one, if that's busy, it dials a normal per minute number to the local POP, and then disconnects you after 2 hours. This is because UTV pay a flat rate for the 1893 port, but have to pay per minute while you use the other number, even though you're only paying flat rate. If you connect to teh 1893 number first time you won't be disconnected after 2 hours. It's a small price to pay for a decent flat rate service. It's rarely ever engaged in my experience.

its happens all the time even if it dials in first time. I can be working away and around the 2 hour mark (it might be 5 minutes before/after) it disconnects. Sometimes the whole computer freezes & I have to cold boot the machine.

Keeps happening to me also, and i'm using 1893 number, i don't have any special dialers or anything, so that all it uses. Very annoying on irc, get 20 meg into a file, just to get disconnected and loose you que spot.

Oh yeah, are you using the UTV dialer or the standard windows dialup yokie?

No, normal ones all the way, i've haven't used one of those automated ones since win95, take control of your computer.

back in the old days.. when I was in BT dial up in the north, thats the way the dialup was set up (2 hours). it would automatically disconnect -> the session timeout or something. It can happen if you are connected after a long periods of time, or it can depend on the time of day.. and a few other factors..

its dial up for you ... :dunno:

You must use the UTV dialer to have ti work properly. Although it makes you feel a little less "l33t", it works much better.

Seriously, whats the difference? Thing is they never even mentioned the dialer to me. But i just quessed there was one, as they are very easy to script. Anyone tell me what other stuff its got in it?

No idea what the difference is. I'm not sure if it's a normal scripted dialer. It seems to be independent of windows DUN. I coudl be wrong though.

As seamus said you need to use the UTV dialler. I too am on UTV lite and I had loads of problems until I started using the dialler. Now I connect first time everytime and I don't get bumped off after 2 hours.
