    Ok, i have a 9600 Pro graphics card and i was thinking of going the whole hog and getting a 9800 XT or Pro or something, but i was wondering, will i just be upgrading in a year or so again? In other words, is there anything new, worth waiting for on the way from nVidia or Ati? Should i just wait a while (9600 Pro isnt that bad at all,has trouble running some games at high settings though)

    I'd hold on to it. But if you are getting a new one, put me down as interested in buying that off you... for the right price.

    To be honest, the 9800pro is about 30-35% better (if i remember correctly), and so wouldn't really be worth the upgrade. Wait for the next-gen ATI cards to come out, which will be substantially faster than current gen cards such as the 9800

    using jedi knight trick

    you don't want to upgrade now (you don't want to upgrade now)

    you want to wait to see nvidia's and ati's new cards (you want... bah you get the picture)

    the new nvidia 6800 ultra will ship mainly in june, the new ati X800 pro will be announced in a couple of days and will also ship in june and the X800 XT will be announced at the end of may.

    so hang off for another month or two and see as the performance increases seem to be significant and then you can buy the best you can afford.

    what they said...at worst wait until the new card drive down the price of the current ones....you're probably be able to pick up a bargain basement 9800 based card in a coupla months.

    Or even lots of the techies will be selling ones on here no doubt to finance their 6800/x800 habits :D

    I will be selling my sapphire 9800xt soon. I have ordered an artic vga cooler so that will be with it by the time i'm selling. It overclocks really well. Stock is 411/729.

    I have it at 459/798. When the vga cooler arrives it will drive temps down by 30c allowing me to up the core near 500. Thats a pretty good boost and as the temps will still be around stock levels it won't affect the lifetime of the card.

    I'm not sure how much I want for it yet but it will be around the 300 mark without half-life 2 voucher.

    i reckon the price that the XT will drop to will be depend on how well the lower end versions of the X800 perform. i was also told once that ati don't like dropping prices but just to discontinue products.

    you can get an XT for what now? 450euro. so i guess it they will drop in price to around the 300 market alright.
