Missing Images

I had something strange happen and I'm hoping someone can help explain it to me. I have a old sienna family photo that does not scan well on the scanner , so I've tried taking photo's of it with my digital camera . However of the 5 shots that I took only one wrote to the memory card. I checked each image on the camera monitor as I took it so all five SHOULD have been there. I noticed the missing photos when I was looking through the other photos I had taken while the card was still in the camera and had thought that perhaps I had skipped over them somehow. So I put the card in the reader and downloaded them and still only the one Sienna photo . As far as I know of I've not had any other photo's go "missing" like this . Since I like to take wildlife photos and most of those shots can not be retaken I'm now worried about other pictures going missing. Can anyone give me any idea what happened ?? Any thoughts and comments would be apprieciated !!

Sounds a bit weird this one. Never had it happen before but could it be that the memory card is flaky? that's the only reason I coud think of for something like that happening.

I think it might be the card also. I've reformatted it to see if that helps , I'll take it out later today for a "test run" . Hopefully reformatting it has solved it's problem , I'm not looking forward to replacing it since it's a microdrive . :(
