Serious Motherboard Problem.

    arg,

Having a serious problem with my computer at the moment which i suspect is a hardware motherboard problem.

    I have a MSI K7N2G-LISR and running win2kpro.

I'm using onboard sound and a 9600xt for graphics.

    Problems:

Using the onboard sound, sound out on the back of the motherboard I only get sound in the left hand speaker and nothing but power in the right.

When I use the headphone jack on the front of my case which is connected to the motherboard via the pins I get both left and right but they are reversed. (never happened before)

When using a usb storage HD, when i plug it in, it is not deteceted anymore and requires a restart for it to show up, logging off and on doesn't even do the job.

When the usb storage device is connected it is copying data at very slow speeds like usb1.1 rather than 2 which it could do before.

These seem to have happened out of the blue, no noteable software changes or hardware changes. I have a feeling someone may have given it a knock, as I had new speakers and tv out hooked up to it.

I have updated the motherboard drivers just incase and no luck.

I have a work around for most things but the usb detection and slow transfer are a pain, and I'd really like to sort that sound out.

Any help ideas would be great,
    Thanks,
    Gid.

Might be worth a shot to re-flash your BIOS, or upgrade it if there are any updates.

yeah I tried no luck, it updated fine just didn't appear to be the problem. Thanks

Perhaps a long shot, but there should be an option in the BIOS for MSI boards to select between USB 1.x and 2.0.

I found these boards to be very fussy about type/brand of memory - Samsung is OK though.

I think i've found out whats the problem. Definitely hardware, I think, i noticed one of the capacitors got a knock.

Noticing this little thing I didn't seek further advise jus gave it a little nudge, started up PC and no sound AT all, ahhhh. So turned it off and nudged it the other way, and and started up again, and have the sound back as I did before with a very low level of sound in the right speaker. The usb still the same but found a usb2 add on attachment so I have usb2 now. So all in all I have everything working in a round about way. No shocks either :) So presume it was that.

Ah guess I can live with this now, wouldn't have a budget to get a new motherboard, and its pretty decent still.

    Thanks for the replies,
    Gid.
