Few years ago, this used to happen to me almost everyday. Much too often for it to be coincidence.

How many times do you think of an episode of the Simpsons and then see a different one? By the laws of probability you will inevitably think of a Simpsons episode and then see it if you like and therefore think about and the watch the Simpsons. However you will tend to remember the coincidences and forget the non-coincidences.

That's according to this guy anyway*

There is a good chance of seeing it considering how many stations its on.

    ok, we'll try an experament...

remember the one where mr. burns trains santas lil helper to be a killer attack dog like my avatar using the 'LuDeVico Technique' from clockwork orange.

now wait and see how long it takes for that episode to come on tv, I promise I didn't look up any tv guides, it's just the first scene that popped into my head.

A few of my friends have often noticed the same thing, its strange, but the Simpsons are shown on 3 or 4 different channels and are on everyday, so tis only coincidance.

Hows about the related pheonomemon where you find yourself humming/singing a song...then switch the radio on and its playing. This happens to me loads. And its not usually charty stuff Im singing..more likely to be 5-10 years old.

Happens alot with songs aswell I find. You walk around singing something you haven't heard in ages and then bang, it comes on the radio.

I think this may have something to do with suggestion though. I was walking along one day humming that tune to greatest american hero and met one of the ads who was humming the same tune. Was all due to some news report where somebody said "XYZ is a great american hero", if enough people hear it then some ring a radio station and get it put on. Could be the same with the guy who does the simpsons schedule on tv.

So it appears we've crossed the threshold from deja vu to foreseeing future events. It's a thin enough line. But when you can tell us the plot line in a future Simpsons or you can write the lyrics to a song which hasn't been released yet then that'll be something.

My take on deja vu is a Scully-like theory that emotion and other feelings are down to chemical reactions and substances which are released. Specifically with DJV I think that there a release of chemicals/hormones which gives you the feeling that you've experienced something before. Associating with something that has happened before, aka 'remembering', is made of the actually memory and a feeling that you've remembered something. I think it's this generic feeling that you get when you remember something - that's what DJV is. In other words, the brain tricks you into thinking that you've remembered something that's happened before when in actual fact it's just a release of whatever that makes you feel that you have been in a situation before.

But I'll agree that if you can take this one step further and you can act on what's going to happen next, that's a bit freaky. Then it becomes a bit time travely. The fact that you're somewhere you've been before and you can change the outcome. But then, is that the past you've remembered or is it a new past which you've just created by altering an old past?

Why did the chicken cross the Oedipus strip? Because it wanted to get to the same side.

I think you meant Moebius strip. I can only think an Oedipus strip is something perverted you would do with your mother....:)

    Yes. Apology^2.

That was a Moebius strip I meant. Oedipus strip is a work in progress.

I'll keep you all posted. So far, it's just my best mate's mother taking her clothes off. Couldn't quite get around to my own mother taking her clothes off. Especially since she's over 20 years deceased.

That happens to me as well. Freaky or what?

    I always wondered about this.

I've read the scientific explanation for dreaming about your alarm going off
or waking up just before your alarm goes off, but this seems more of an anti-
deja vu and probably doesn't fit in.

Could it be some sort of precog? I mean, its not as if the broadcast signal is
    there before the show starts?

I remember my friend telling me before that during the Leaving Cert the song with the lyrics "been through the desert on a horse with no name" got stuck in his head during the first exam and stayed there for the other 6 exams over the next couple of weeks. The morning of the results is was on in the car on the way to school.

Funny coincidence, the Simpsons thing happens to me quite a bit as well!

Omg exact same here, or I'll have a completly random song stuck in my head and then I'll hear some one singing it or even talkin about it!

It always happens when my sister get songs stuck in my head, I always hear them on the radio or in a shop or something!

Man thats weird, me and my brother talk about this all the time, it really has happened an awful lot of times. I think you could be on to something...:D

Watch out for the men in black!

Yeah that happens me sometimes too with the Simpsons but what happens me more often is a little more weird:

Years ago you used to watch a TV show. Recently it's back on TV on some channel of another, but there's one or two episodes that you remember specifically for some reason and you remember a few scenes from that/those episodes. Then that day when you go to watch said show, that episode you remember is what's being shown.

Happened me just yesterday with ''Lois and Clark''.

Alot of what is being talked about here is discussed in a DVD from Book called "What The Bleep Do We Know?"

It is a documentary of sorts which looks at Quantum physics and its implications on our every day lives and the world around us.

It changed how I view alot of things and explains why when we think of something it appears, whether it be a Simpons episode or a friend we havent spoken to in a long time etc

Its amazing if your open to it, or you can call it rubbish :)

this is really startin to freak me out cos its being goin on for a few days now :S shouldn't exactly mean anything though..since 911 already happened like..
and this morning when I turned my phone on it was..lo and behold...9:11am
anyone think this is just an insane form of coincidence or my body clock just trying to freak me??
