both. Plus I'm sure the new concept, one hand of omaha will make another appearance.
It starts at 6.30 as far as I know but don't quote me.

one hand of omaha... when did this madness start?
    is it high-low..?

cool i think 6.30 is lateish
    registration at 6ish i think...
    are you heading yourself?

I've a ticket, so does Karl and Davey I think.

If they do the one hand of Omaha thing, I think I'm going to have to put 30 notes on it alright. Its too crazy NOT to be involved!

I've got to say I'm really looking forward to it. I won a ticket back in Jan through what I am now convinced was sheer fluke! It was the best competition I've played in yet, the standard is godlike. I came 35th but I also think that was just me being Twoflower the Tourist and wandering unaware through the car-crashes happening around me. I have a funny feeling that now that I know a little more, I'll do worse hahah...

See y'all tonight, I'll be the one on crutches!

    the omaha thing: please elaborate.

is this in the big game they do a round of omaha?
or in the free in turkey shoot?

It's like a single table satellite - 10 people pay in €30 to win a ticket for the big game, except instead of playing a fast tournament they play just one hand of omaha. You'd have to be crazy or insanely lucky to consider playing though now that I think about it hmmmm................ :)

It's great entertainment for the spectator. Luke comentates on it and it's done slowly with players taking turns to turn a card over.

sounds like madness... good to watch i'd say alrigh.
but then again.. i won 25 quid on a scratchcard today
so ill ask myself the question... am i feeling lucky... well am i punk?

p.s. just rang dave and the usual 6.15 game is on beforehand.

Yeah apparently Luke announced last night that it would be on at 6 p.m. Our good friends here obviously weren't paying attention. So I aim to be there for 6 to be on the safe side.

I have a ticket for the game. Am getting ready as we speak. Id hate to be beside me as there is no hot water and I stink hee hee.

Am looking forward to it. Am trying to forget my great 5th in January as going in tonight expecting that would be madness. Im just heading in to enjoy the night and try and learn as much as possible. This is the best way of learning how to play proper/real/serious as hell, poker

Tough night again. Blinds were 400/800 , I had about 4,200. Went all-in on 9,9 - best hand I'd seen in 3 and half hrs of play. Ran into pocket aces - game over.

Oh cruel world. Had my pocket rockets busted by a flush made with 4 diamonds on the board. Even worse I was left with a 25 chip so had to stay at the table until I got the chance to throw it in and go home. I hate/love/hate/love this game. Possibly the worst I have ever felt in the Fitz.

    OW!!!!!!!

I had a ticket but I played the freeroll (with no top up!) just for a laugh and was doing nicely for myself until two pocket pairs (nearly in a row) ran into Ken Cleary with AA's (twice!). Watch out lads he's raised his game from Kings to Aces!
It was a portent for the night!

Got seated next to Noel Furlong (WSOP champion, at least I'm to his left!!) and watching that man play is an education. Start the night with a few quick wins and then as BB look down to see JJ which put me a little on tilt I think! A bet of 350 from my left is called in 4 places (!) and this is only the 10th hand of the night! I reraise to 1000 and STILL get 5 callers...flop comes rags and I bang out another 1000 bet. One caller. Turn, rag, 1000, one caller. River, rag, 2000 one caller... ohoh I think... she has 99 and I triple through!

I bust a lot of heads at that table and have a GREAT table image that is allowing me to steal but also getting me some action when I feign weakness. I'm up at 24K in no time and hover there for ages.

Noel Furlong is having a tough time of it but the second he sniffs that he has a lead (about 7.5K) he starts moving... all-ins, big pre flop raises, over-the-top reraises etc. the two of us are having a laugh though I get more respect from him then anyone else at the table (I think he sees through some of my acting :) )
He gets winged twice and makes a stand. I've got J,9 and usually would toss that away but I really want to be the one to put him out. 6 callers and the flop comes Jack high... I bet (much to the annoyance of the others who are circling Furlong like vultures!) and they all fold, he shows AQ, pulls a Q on the turn but I pull another Jack on the river and he's walking!

Talk about boosting your confidence... any other champs want a piece of this! :)
So then I calm down again, play nice and tight but continue to get nice cards and I'm looking in good shape and feeling it too.

Then it happens :( The dreaded table-move. Fnck Fnck Fnck!!!
Moved to a table of 7 including me and they seem to all have roughly similar stacks to me... I dont like this. First hand, 99's ... I bet 3K over a blind of 800 and get re-raised all-in for 10K. I should have dropped them but I dont want to give them the idea they can bully me and against AK, AQ or a smaller pair (88,77 etc) I am not in bad shape. He has AA and I think back to Mr Cleary...

AQ then goes down against K10 and my final stand turns into a fight between two other players for the pot. And I'm walking.... no more then 15 minutes after being moved...

If you'd told me I was going to come 30th and knock out a world champ I'd have been happy... but I cant help feeling I should have done more from that position...

Ross and Gerire were still there so hopefully one of them made it...

    DeV.

Bloody hell DeV - putting out a WSOP champion, not bad for a nights work. Still though you probably shouldn't have called an all-in for those nines. Thats almost the exact same hands you lost to me on except I think you had eights then.

I had an enjoyable night of poker in the freeroll - there was a while there were I was hitting anything and everything. In the space of 5 hands I got pocket aces twice and ace king suited once and got paid each time. I even called an All-in bet with 7 2 offsuit only for my opponent to turn over Ace King. He hit his king and then I got a seven and a two :). After that though I was terrified that my aces wouldn't hold up or something. Had built up a nice stack but unfortunately was anted away by fast rising blinds - decided to make my stand on a King Queen suited but ran into two callers with Ace Jack & Ace King and i'm walking away.

Says the man who then says:

    Lol!!!

Yeah I regretted the move but there was an N.I bloke next to me who writes poker books (no shít!) who reckoned it was a valid play as I had 24K at that point and it was 7k more to me...
It was the start of the end though... funny that it was the same cards that put DD out too...

Anyone know who won and how much first prize was?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,587 ✭✭✭gerire

Well I had a good night had 5 scalps during the game. None of huge significance. Was always hovering around 12k of an average stack and was playing well throwing away monsters correctly and playing the small hands to win big. K 6 as small blind. Whole table folds, I call BB. Flop. 6 6 J. I bet 800, He goes 1600, I reraise to 8000 forcing him all in. He calls turns over J 10. I even hit a 6 on the river to add a final nail into the coffin for him.

All in all was happy to finish 15th. Made final stand when blinds were 1500, 3000. All in for 9,900 with A Q. Got called by A K. He hits a K on Flop. Oh well thats what its all about

Everuy Thursday they print the major results from the fitz and the Merrion deep in the Sports section. Apparently 200 people played Hold ém last Thursday in the 2 casinos. Most were at the Merrion's Las Vegas tournament. They gave away 4 full tickets including accomodation which is some good going
