    Hi there,

I need recommendations for a wireless PCMCIA card for a laptop that will be suitable
for the following standards.. info on where to get one and an approx price would
    be appreciated also..

A mate of mine is working on a site that has this and needs to get one for his laptop
but wants to buy a wireless point for the house so that he can work with this too.
Im a bit new to all this wireless and hadnt actually heard of this 802.1x standard.

I know they are available on komplett.ie but a store in Dublin would also be nice in
case there is a problem and it doesnt work and it needs to be returned..

    Thanks,

    Tox

    802.1x stands for 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and all other standards. It's a shortcut.

Shops to try - Maplins or Peats. They're close to each other (Jervis St and Parnell St).

    You could always try www.elara.ie

But, just about any card should work.

ok, well I got a US Robotics card for my mate before and its supposedly supported
802.11b and 802.11g, however they didnt work...

So Im a bit confused as to why?

Is there a difference between Wifi and Wireless???

It has been noted that there can be compatibility problems between products from different manufacturers.

But, a standard should be a standard.

Sometimes it's better to set both to the same (either 802.11b or 802.11g) rather than allowing the option of floating between them.

But, it may just have been a config/driver/firmware issue.

No, wi-fi and wireless are the same.
