In my contract I am required to give 4 weeks notice, but Im curious to know what would happen if I only gave 2 weeks notice and then left the company?

Anyone else been in a similar position, any fall out from your decision?

It'll probably ruin any chances of a reference.

Unless you have some kind of really important job, that only you can do, and if it doesn't get done every day the company goes bankrupt, your leaving 2 weeks early shouldn't make a big deal. You may piss off some managers, but very few companies are willing to shoulder the expense of chasing someone up for breach of contract if they leave without proper notice.

Yoru best bet is to approach your manager reasonably. Explain the situation to him. Be willing to compromise (say 3 weeks), and they'll be much more receptive to it.

unless they agree to you leaving, they will terminate your contract.
means they get to sack you, deduct your wages, and probably hang to your p45 toi píss you off.
apart from that, theres not much else they can do, but i wouldnt be relying on a letter of recommendation.
